Jeez i miss those days when the opposition use to make a break from their own half. It was like waiting for Superman. You just knew that Darren would be there and time and time again he dident fail. From knowhere he would chase down the attacker - even from the other side of the pitch.

Remember when we switched him to fullback for a run of games in 2002 because of Wellens injury. The amount of try saving tackles he made was awesome.

Any great memories of the flying Aussie ?

that said,he was a great winger.such a shame he left when he did as he still had a lot to give.the best winger i've seen at saints.

The Grand Final win against Bradford when Wellens was injured and Albert went to full back.

We were sat behind the sticks that Bulls were attacking in the second half and he seemed to pull off one tackle after another.

In general if you add his try saving tackles to the tries he scored and the breaks he made that then led to tries it shows how valuable he was to the side.

Definately a class act.

One of the great shames of rugby was that when he left cronulla he was sat at home only 100 yds fom KR and we couldn't sign him up and were left with Ade and Meli

great player was darren albert!

anyone remember that try he scored from fullback at wilderspool after collecting a clearing kick he weaved his way through half of the wire team to score infront of the saints fans AWESOME his tackling was superb aswell timing&technique personified(just ask lesley )

I remember sky doing a little piece on the fastest man in SL and had a race, Albert won by a good way, as he would, he had just turned down the the austrailian olympic commitee who wanted him to train for the 100m in the olympics!

I remember a great try against London Broncos i think, where he could have gone in for a simple try nearer the posts but decided to take the p*ss out of thir FB by rounding him again on the outside.

My favourite has to be a game at the JJB where he chased down a break on the opposite wing and made a try saving tackle right near the line on the opposite side of the field. Wigan played the ball and flung it out across to the opposite side (Albert's wing) and he appeared and put in another try saver right on the line having got all the way back to his own wing during the move.

i remember when bulls signed lesley, this massive winger ready to dessimate all who opposed them and on the match he played us he broke down Alberts wing and Darren got up and chased him down in 30 metres, running along side him picked lesley up and dumped him in touch, breaking vianakolos arm at the same time leaving him out for 6 weeks that was a great moment
