his form has been ok in 2011, he knew he had to improve and while he hasn't been world class with foster being our outstanding winger, he has scored a few. on friday he should have covered his wing better and had a poor game but at the same time stopped a couple of tries but generally I think he has been ok this year. Even if you were to start Meli and Foster on the wing possibly keep him as a backup just for 2012 as it is his testimonial year, but I don't think you should keep him just to grant a testimonial.

I wouldn't dream of giving Gardner another deal when we have a ready made points machine in foster.

Get shut and use his wage on another position we need.

Gardner to be fair has played well this year but IMO it's 2yrs to late and convenient that he's in his last year of his contract.

I have to agree with Gardner he has been woeful in the previous couple of years and its just a coincidence that his form has suddenly picked up in the last year of his contract. He has to be released at the end of the season and snap somebody else up. Failing that (snapping somebody up) start Foster and Meli on the wings in 2012. Having one dodgy winger is bad enough but having two is plain suicide.

Now Gardner has slimmed down a lot ( as has the whole team under Royce ) he is looking a better player and worth a new contract if he keeps putting the effort in that he has been doing.Meli is at home in the Centre and looking good there and i would much rather see him there than out wide. Two year deal for Ade until we get a btter junior coming through to challenge for his place imo.

So next season we have Perry and Hohaia as overseas quota, laffranchi, soliola and meli as overseas trained (if tp and flannery leave) which is our 5 spots? Where do we squeeze in gibbs, hayne and waterhouse?

my limited understanding is that as Meli was signed before the rules came into force he is exempt? so we would have 1 spot left, hopefully for TP

I know, the rules appear written as such but I am not sure this can be as simple as this purely as Hull KA have so many almost all of which where signed after the rules came into force, (I think only Vella was before).

I know they have been heavily criticised for "bending" the rules (and rightly so) but it can't seemingly just be any 5 from either coloumn...

Jake Webster, Blake Green, Michael Dobson, Rhys Lovegrove, Joel Clinton, Ben Galea, Clinton Newton, Michael Vella, "Willie Mason"

Of these, Galea and Vella hold Maltese passports, Newton was born in USA & Mason was getting a Tongan passport but all are still completely overseas trained which in theory would be 5 quota, 4 overseas

I do not want Saints to go anything like this I'd be happy up to 5 but I do want us to keep the English and more importantly the local content of the squad if at alll possible.

Perry, TP, Soliola, Hohaia & Hayne
Laffranchi (Saints suggest he doesn't count) and Meli signed before rules
