What about the other ones, you said a few.
I've always thought of McGuire as a good player, and I wouldn't normally wish injury on any player, but there was a certain hint of poetic justice to that.

Another classic:
You forgot to take off the "Saints Reduction Factor" when calculating the ban.

Standard suspension / Saints Reduction Factor = Actual ban for Saints player.

Therefore (2 / 3) = 0.666

0.666 < 1 therefore actual ban equals "less than 1 match".

Therefore ZERO.
The new rules HAVE been agreed and as far as I understand is as follows:

2011
At least 8 "home grown" players
No more than 5 overseas quota players
No more than 5 "overseas trained" players inc 5 OQs
Rest of squad to be from players trained within same Federation

Where

"home grown" = any player still under 21 and/or has completed 3 years service with same club before turning 21.

same federation = any player still under 21 and/or has completed 3 years service before turning 21 with other clubs within UK for UK SL clubs or France for Catalans etc.

overseas quota = as per current rules i.e. anyone unable to prove origins within EU or Kolpak countries.

and

"overseas trained" = any other player

I reckon we need another Lee Gaskell in that squad. :SHIFTY:

Given the current form of dixon, if this continues does anyone think a four year deal is too long?

If his form continues and the price is right, then i'm all for long term deals for young, british players

Yes. A four year deal is always too long IMO. Players can get complacent. At this stage I'd go with two years and if he shows the same kind of commitment, talent and progress as he appears to be showing this season, revise the deal part way through as was done for Roby, for example.

They weren't four year deals. Both are three years. They still had a year left on their old deals when the new ones were completed. Three years is ok but that's probably my maximum length.

Robys was a 4 year extension or a 5yr deal whichever way you look at it

I certainly think four years is to long for Dixon.

Let's not get carried away here, he's started the season off very well but I'm seeing the old saints trait of compering him to ex great saints backrows. He's not anywhere near the quality of a young joynt or a young gilmour at this current time.

Let's see how he goes and let him develop without putting so much pressure on him.

Over the past three years he's showed glimpse of being decent player but st time he's looked below average (as Royce has said).

I'd wait until mid season and see how he's playing, if he continues this form id give him a two year deal.

A current in form saint is in advanced talks about a new deal. The are NRL clubs interested but the player wants to stay and the club want him to stay so it all looks good.
