OT Inane Garbage on Gameshows : Thu May 21, 2009 9:30 pm
I went to my mum and dads tonight for my weekly feed and as the weekly rounds of premier league darts have finished my dad and I settled down to watch the Doncaster Halifax match. At the final whistle my brother insisted that we switch over to Challenge for In it to win it. This is reruns of that crap quiz hosted by Dale Winton that they use to pad out the national lottery draw on a saturday. Stay with me.
Anyway this was fine as watching my brother do impressions of Dale was really funny. Until the very end when an incident took place that absolutely drove me wild with mild irritation.
This time there were three winners each with a share of GBP 21,666 each. As the end credits rolled the picture showed Dale handing out the cheques and making rediculously inane comments to the winners. The last one was a lady from Paisley who had already revealed that she enjoyed singing and would spend any winnings on booking a recording studio.
So as dale handed the cheque over to her he said "21,666 pounds now that sum has a popstar ring to it!" WHat?
Now leaving the fact that Dale would have said that no matter what the sum what exactly does that mean? Surely there is no correlation between a sum and the occupation that that sum sounds like. It's like saying 12 pounds 65 pence that has a high court judge kind of ring to it.
Surely if he wanted to go down the popstar route he should have said 21666 pounds that will get you a couple of hours in a recording studio then you can use the change to put a deposit on a Bentley. Hiding behind the settee when the bailiffs come round you can pretend to be Kerry Katona a real popstar.
