Rugby League nostalgia : Tue Jun 02, 2009 12:08 pm
Just got in from a visit to my fathers, where he had all his old Rugby League programs out remembering the good old times and we came across one that his father (my grandfather) had bought at a game.
It was a match program from the wartime, 1944 to be precise.
It was held at Odsal stadium and was a souvenir program for a Rugby League v Rugby Union game, played on Saturday April 29th 1944 with a 3-30pm kick-off.
Scribbled in faint pencil across the back is the full time score which says that the Rugby League 15 beat the Rugby Union 15 by 15-10.
Was this a one off game ???
Proceeds from the game were split equally between each codes chosen war charity.
Some Northern greats made the Rugby League XV with Trevor Foster and Ernest Ward the stand out pair.
Rugby League nostalgia, you just can't beat reading it.
