Ferres Vs Solomona : Fri Apr 03, 2009 1:23 pm
Just thinking about this deal. At the time most thought we got the best out of it but with Solomona struggling for form and fitness Ferres seems to be looking the part at Cas. Correct me if I wrong but was Noble in charge of this deal?

Everyone goes on about us letting Atkins go but for mine Ferres is the best prospect and looks to have kicked on. Noticed he carries the ball in a one handed style reminisent of Lauittiiti Lautitti Lauit-ti-ti BIG ALI :x at Leeds and looks dangerous on attack. IMO better than any English second rowers in our team?

Im not writing off Solomona but he will have a lot of weight on his shoulders when he returns and Im not just referring to him filling Morrisons boots

One thing for sure - Wakefield weren't the winners in this deal 8)

Ive added a poll anyway to liven up the board :)

I wouldn't say any of the clubs got a particularly good deal and I wont be counting Cas as one of the clubs because they were not involved in any deal.

Bulls dont look to have got anything out of this and payed in excess of 100k for a player that is often a liability despite showing glimpses of ability, but they are often few and far between. They also offloaded one of their better youth prospects at the time and a home grown player, having said that I am not sure how much game time Ferres would have got at Bulls.

Wildcats got a shed load of cash and a promising youngster, but they also offloaded one of their best players, who has yet to be replaced by anybody who can do the things Solomona was doing at Wakey. However, Brett Ferres didn't kick on and in my books didn't really improve that much.

I would say Bulls have lost out a fair bit and Wakey haven't faired much better as a result of the deal, perhaps the winner in all of this might be Brett himself who has come out of it as an established 1st team player and getting a start most most weeks of the season.

As far as the Bulls and Wakey are concerned neither club seems to have done very well out of it.

The Bulls got a player who has been dogged by injury and who has failed to live up to performances given in the first part of 2007. Ferres never did much at Wakey and got a lot of flak from fekkwits who thought he should be performing Solomona's role. Wakey also got some money but I don't think it was a vast amount.

If anything Cas have done the best out of the initial deal! They've got a solid player who's now playing for his hometown team.

AFAIK McNamara masterminded the Ferres/Solomona deal. At first glance the thought of him linking up with Hape and Vainikolo looked great but we all know what's happened since.

Noble was the mastermind behind Atkins going to Wakey I think.

Wasn't the actual sequence of events that Atkins went on loan to Wakefield under Noble, and that the loan was made a permanent transfer under MacNamara? Not that that is necessarily significant - the final transfer might just have been confirmation for a player who had previously been convinced that he had no future at Odsal.

I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying.

Hmm, they got a bit of dosh and strengthened significantly to ensure a much higher finish in the seasons after getting rid, so they certainly weren't losers.

Ferres was well crap for us, never played to his potential. Seems to be getting on well at Cas, playing better for them than he ever did for us, mind you he is a Cas lad.

He would not of got in team with Noble about, not sure about Macnamara depends what Noble was telling him. But he is doing well at Wakey he has made good start to this season and I hope he can kick on and get in England squad this season.

Atkins is a long way short of being an full international. He's got an awful lot to do to get ahead of, Gleeson, Shenton, Yeaman & Sykes and even more.

You think?

I don't agree and no not being biased. If he can keep playing how he is then we should get in the England team for mid season.

I know Tony Smith has been keeping a close eye on him. When ever we play Cas he normaly comes out on top between him and Shenton.

Yeman, not heard of him in some time. Sykes, don't rate him all that much

Time will tell but aslong as he keeps going how he is that will do me and Wakey fine.
