To be fair, as I understand it the fire service has no problem with him playing as a firefighter, it's the risk to an injury which may cause him to miss his training. Basic training, seems not to be an on-going thing but something that is done in blocks with largish gaps between. IF he were to get a serious injury during this period it would throw his induction training back maybe several months, so it's not really an unfair imposition.
