Re: Odsal Sporting Village : Sat Apr 17, 2010 8:02 pm
As I keep saying...Groundhog day.

Wonder if they hope the Council will offer Bulls £5m to surrender the Odsal lease, and "encourage" Bulls to pay that £5m to City to buy in as a junior partner at VP. Thereby saving City and getting their hands on the Odsal site without it ever looking like Council baled out City.

Something almost exactly like that has NEVER been suggested at any time in the recent past, has it? You could NEVER imagine that scenario happening, could you?

Sorry, I must have been in a coma or summat for eight years - I just woke up and was sure it was 2002. Is Richmond still running City and is that soccer fan Stewart still the council chief exec, and has someone given Tesco the nod that they can build some supermarkets as long as not at Odsal?

Except now I have woken up, I see one significant difference: the council - or at least its Strategic Director for Culture, Tourism & Sport Mr Glaister, does not seem to be in on City's cunning plan, no doubt dusted off from 2002:

John Glaister wrote:

Hopefully the wassock has shot himself in the foot - the 'nads would be better, but he can probably locate his feet.

When you're a Bradford fan there's always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Unfortunately it's usually an oncoming train

It doesn't matter how many times you state and re-state the fact that the OSV is about more than just a new stadium for the bulls. People just refuse to listen. Mainly as their brain's can't get a word in edgeways because their mouth's are on 24/7

You're missing the point though. Bradford Council are still planning to invest millions into Odsal and that's a fact. In comparison, the amount invested into Valley Parade by Bradford Council probably doesn't get above the £10 mark.

And by the way, if Bradford Council did buy Valley Parade and spend money on it and then rented it to Bulls and City, they would get a full return within 10 years.

Bradford gave us Hockney, Leeds gave us Moyles.

None of us is missing any point. You and your disingenuous (if not dishonest) chairman are. The money is not going into Odsal stadium. It is going into the Odsal sporting village. Same way as if it was going into a site centred around Valley Parade it would be going into the Manningham sporting village. Amongst other things, it is going into a replacement for the Richard Dunn centre. How many times do we have to tell the boneheads this? The trouble is, they only want to hear what suits their agenda. Gobs stuck on "Transmit"; they need to open their ears to "Receive".

Their chairman has anyway pîssed off the council, by the looks of things, so maybe we should just let him carry on?

I saw the plans in the T&A with my own eyes and there were several options drawn up by Bradford Council over the Odsal Sporting Village and if I remember rightly, it was something like four out of the six contained plans to spend money on the Odsal Stadium itself.

I really cannot get my head around why so many City fans are against seeing the OSV happen. Bradford doesn't have a great deal going for it and a poor image in general IMO.
Some of the facilities planned would be a big boost for the people of Bradford and no doubt people would travel into Bradford to use them.

As a fan of both clubs i'm pro OSV, but i'd say the reason so many are against it is a perceived bias in favour of the Bulls. This scheme will cost tens of millions of pounds, and a large part of the scheme will entirely benefit the Bulls, so from the perspective of some it's a sort of "why are they spending tens of millions of pounds that will end up benefiting that sports club instead of ours".

Did I dream the offer for City to get on-board with the scheme too?

I don't mind the redevelopment of Richard Dunns, but in terms of a New Odsal Stadium funded by the taxpayer, I'm not sure. I wouldn't be against it if it held something like 25,000+ and it offered more than Valley Parade. Otherwise, I don't think its worth using tax payers money to fund a new stadium when there already is a perfectly good stadium in the City, which would cost much less to redevelop.
