Quite. And being absolutely completely honest, while we have a lot of very good people with judgement, credibility, perspective, and the interests of the club at heart, it is not as if we have an excess of them. There is an awful lot of complete bo11ox talked on the likes of BBSG and Bulls Banter, as well as people with their own agendas who are happy to play self-appointed roles as an insider or fan representative. I can see it being an absolute minefield, in which anyone with the awareness required to do the job well would not want to put themselves forward, leading to yet another deadweight leader at or near the top of the club.
I like the idea in theory but would be wary of how it would work for us in practice. The “fans” don’t and never have spoken with a unified voice on anything. VBFG’s point is well made. You’d need a rhinoceros thick skin to be a representative on the board. Not for me thanks.
Our local football team is fan owned,Chester, the trouble is the supporters never agree on anything,so nothing gets done, the minute any supporter director is seen with a glass of anything in his hand, it's whose paid for that,?the rumors fly around about supporter directors not paying to get in etc,as a model in theory it's great reality you stagnate because other clubs have far more money, they speculate to accumulate,it depends what you want, a middle of the table championship team, if that is what you want then it is achievable with a supporter led model, anything more ambitious sadly NO.
re: Supporter's Direct Yes. And I know from them that they have tried to get involved.
And to repeat what I said to that representative, it would never be me who volunteers because I would not allow the majority of Bradford fans to know be my sight. Frankly, anyone who would does not have the foresight required for the job.

I'm not sure that's entirely true. You'd have to be someone fairly comfortable with being a magnet for abuse from a fair few 'fans', as well as with a roughly 50% chance of at some point never being able to set foot in Odsal (or wherever we end up playing) again. So, essentially someone with no emotional ties to the club or who feels that their relationship with the club is pretty disposable. Not the best qualities in someone to be a fan representative.
Yes. And I know from them that they have tried to get involved.
If memory serves me correctly, Supporters Direct pushed very hard for BullBuilder to include provisions for getting on the board in the constitution. They were very helpful in setting up BullBuilder, but the constant talk about leaving the board options open no matter how many times the steering committee told them they didn't want that, were quite irritating. I think as a group, they're very keen to get involved at the higher end as much as possible, so it doesn't surprise me they want to try and get involved here too.

The problem with fans' representatives is that the representative starts to look after his or her position more than the interests of the fans, not wanting to give up the status of being on the board and having the inside track on everything. The focus switches to the interests of the Board rather than the fans, and the non-fan members start to use the representative as a publicist, to keep the fans onside.
I've seen it in happen in the wider world, and it is human nature.
