RFL have agreed to pay December salaries in order to give more time for a sale to be finalized, surely they would not have agreed to this unless a deal was very close to been agreed. I understand that the RFL have been very helpful and worked very closely with the administrator in order to ensure that a sale can be achieved.

If true, that give a bit of hope.

Is this the RFL trying to absolve themselves of any blame when we are liquidated? Its sounds like that to be.

Still at least they will have protected a prize asset for the good of the sport. A sport that will no longer will be played there, and that is in fact dying on it's a@@e. They can be very proud.

Indeed. On the face of it, the RFL's whiney stance that basically they and their lease are a separate thing and why should they be railroaded into being part of a deal would be logical - but not when you know:
a) what they paid for it
b) how they got it
c) how they effectively got themselves a 750K loan back which they would otherwise have been whistling for with the other creditors

The RFL got themselves into this. In becoming the club's landlords they ARE inextricably part of the deal. The fact that they are also the game's governing body makes it all the more imperative that they take a full and active part. If they were saying someone is trying to rob them, or we're not selling at that price, or whatever, that would be fair enough, but as I read it, they are saying "No, you lads do a deal for the club first, THEN we'll talk about what we may or may not do".

So let's say the interested party was Tesco, and they wanted to build a megastore. Ask yourself, would they buy the business blind, and only then start to negotiate as to whether or not they could actually own the land? So buy on no more than a wing and a prayer? No they wouldn't, nor would, nor will, any business. This stance restricts potential buyers to just those that are benefactors rather than business, men, who are prepared to commit themselves to the status quo (buy the club, take on the lease) and then hope for the best.

By which time of course the RFL would have engineered themselves into an infinitely stronger position, as now, they would be negotiating for the lease with a party who was a captive market, and had basically zero bargaining power. As if they don't accept whatever deal, then they are bound to just keep paying the rent and maintaining the land.

I can accept that the RFL don't ant to give the lease away etc., and why should they, but it isn't worth more than £1.25m (unless the RFL fleeced the club at an undervalue at the point of purchase).

If this is a dealbreaker and kills off the club then well done RFL, you've stuck to your guns, and preserved the iconic Odsal for the game. But, what game, and at the expense of assigning to the dustbin of history one of your proudest and most illustrious clubs.

Nice work.

Agreed, but it also means we won't get any answers until the new year :(

But it would indicate a level of discussion aimed at agreeing a value for the lease is happening

Re: Administration 3 - now in technicolour : Fri Dec 16, 2016 9:55 am
It's probably more than just a value for the lease that is involved, the RFL will want certain guarantees in place so this doesn't happen down the line again. ie, development of the site for non-related rugby building must only proceed once investment has been made in the stadium and investment for the team.. That could also be a sticking point, developers want a return asap on investment, they wont get that funding a Rugby league team. The RFL are probably over cautious and want safeguards in place that the funds are there for the Stadium improvements/upgrades and club funding before relinquishing the lease, look at the mess Wakefield are in, where is there promised stadium.....

Hopefully the RFL can hammer out a cast iron deal that guarantees the bulls playing in a modern stadium at the top echelons of the game...

From Day 1 , the administrator would have been aware of the situation regarding the lease and the freehold. The company in admin owned neither. The 12 potential bidders would have been made aware. The 4 final bidders would certainly have known. Pettit has publicly stated that the RFL as leaseholders and the Council as freeholders, have been involved in discussions with him throughout the process- he has gone out of his way to emphasise those discussions have been helpful. Surely those talks would have included Odsal.
Is it credible that the 4 bidders , let alone the 2 preferred parties, would have proceeded if they knew that the leasehold was not on the negotiation table?

Knowing what we do now I suppose we should be glad that mr Green didn't get to buy the lease from the RFL after all, despite making all the noises that he was.

The RFL are clueless muppets at best. You only have to look at the abortion called the "8's" to realise this as the standard of rugby across the English game has fallen along with many fans INTEREST.
A clear out and different direction is needed otherwise all our players will defect to the other side and fans will end up watching RU.
It's obvious that ODSAL has to be part of any negotiations otherwise we have no chance of getting a deal brokered and the end cometh.
It's worse than 1964.

What really puzzles me is why the RFL felt the need to explain that they own the primary lease and it isn't the administrator's to sell.

Fine - a few less than quite up to speed fans may not realise this, but it seemed to be aimed at the admin people and the buyers. I'm sure the administrator has a handle on what is and what isn't included in the sale and wouldn't offer what wasn't in his control. So what was the point of the statement?

Incidentally, just for the avoidance of doubt, neither my home nor the land and garden it is built on, is not included in the sale either - caveat emptor, and all that..

They're welcome to the contents of my garage if that helps swing the deal. Admittedly, it's full of stuff I haven't been @rsed to take to the tip yet, but if it helps....
