It doesn't matter what you/we lose by, if you/we are not good enough to win then you/we lose. It's as simple as that and the margain of defeat is not relevent one tiny bit.

My guess has been that a 50/50 record should be enough for a play-off berth, and given that Wakey have one and are in sixth spot, that seems to be reasonable.

So to achieve that, we need eight wins from our final thirteen games. Are they going to come? And where?

Warrington a
St. Helens h
Leeds a
Castleford h
Hull KR a
Wigan h
Celtic a
Harlequins h
Harlequins a
Huddersfield a
Catalans h
Salford h
Hull FC a

Nothing unwinnable or unloseable there...

After beating a poor out of form Wakefield side who IMO will be luck to win another four games this season here comes af again with his OTT optimism.

Of course nothing is unwinnable in this competition with the salary cap but the fact is that we can only reasonably expect to win these games, some at a push:

Cas home
Celtic away
Quins home
Catalans home
Salford home

That ain't gonna be enough to make the play-offs IMO as the likes of Warrington Wigan and Catalans will push in ahead of us with Wakey and Hull popping out above us.

I'm Just saying it like it is unlike af with all this 'if we won all our close games we would be champions 6 seasons running' rubbish. What gives us the right to win games just cos they are close??! We lost because we aren't good enough - the FACT that it is becoming a TREND shows that these losses are not just flash in the pans - like the recent form of Cas who cant close out close games - they don't have the mentality in the team despite playing well in patches. I don't buy this Bulls are unlucky in close games rubbish - it is becoming such a trend that you would have thought if it was luck then the TREND would even out as the coach and players strive to address it. As this ain't happening we must conclude that the league table doesn't lie.

Bradford gave us Hockney, Leeds gave us Moyles.

Never said it was ill-fortune. Just thought it was an interesting way to go about being twelfth in the table. And I don't see how 'nothing unwinnable or unloseable' counts as unbridled optimism.

Re-read the post. It's a invitation to state your opinion rather than much of a statement in itself. And you have stated your opinion, that we will do well to win five and miss out by a bit instead of a lot, so thanks for that. :)

Going on our performances this year so far I'd day that if we continue in the form we've showed thus far 5 or 6 wins is the best we'll manage.

Yes af but I was reading your exchange with others on this thread who seem to share my view that you carp on about these close losses a bit too much. But OK, I apologdies, that is your opinion and there is mine.

Macca said the same last year highlighting that they were working on it but actually it has just got worse which just shows he is not up to it. I got carried away after the Saints win but actually I fear it was a flash in the pan as they were out of sorts.

I think they can be won, but we need to cut out the silly penalties.

Warrington a - Build on last performance, should be able to get a win.
St. Helens h - Hard game, but that's what we thought at Knowesley road. We'll need to have built on form.
Leeds a - Another hard game, have to play well.
Castleford h - Castleford seem to be dipping, hopefully a win.
Hull KR a Tough fixture.
Wigan h Another toughie.
Celtic a We've got to win to make up for the embarassment
Harlequins h
Harlequins a - Both tough, but at least one of them should be ours.
Huddersfield a Tough, but I think we could get the win.
Catalans h - Can see a win
Salford h - Same
Hull FC a - Far away, but we owe them for the early defeat, and hopefully we'll have hit some form.

not a chance of you making the play off's!! no doubt about it bradford desereved to win but you were still very poor, 5 missed goals by wakey made the result and performance look better than it really was.

OK, so by the same standard...

Make your mind up. :) Why is it that when we lose, the performance is irrelevant to the result, but when we win then you get your magnifying glass out and start to look at what was going on?

Results are important and for the competition they're obviously crucial, but we can look past them as well, in an attempt to get a clearer idea of what's going on.

AF - I know what you're saying and its a fair point, don't worry.

Indeed, I've tried to make a similar point with a similar response to af!
