I thought Steve Menzies was brilliant for you. We couldn't put him down at times and he looked your best player.

Was Sykes playing at stand off? I thought he played alright considering he was out of position.

Your forwards owned our pack for the entire game. An area we really need to improve in. I thought your defence in the first half was pretty good. You just lack strike power to me. You don't have a "go to" player that can create something for you.

Wigan didn't play well today but they had that "go to" player in Martin Gleeson who effectively won the game for us.

Him, and Silverwood.

Your not wrong and in years gone by we would have got a right hiding from you gifting so much possesion from knock on's in our own half and stupid penalties. Even though our defence was pretty resolute I still think a better team would have got through it a couple more times.

Coming to Odsal is not what it used to be, these days as an away fan you actually believe you will win.

We are poor, but its very mediocre league. I'm reasonably confident we'll make the play-offs even though with with the exception of O'Loughlin - who has been outstanding this season - not one of our players could have got in the starting line-up of the Wigan side 10 years ago.

Always good to get sensible comment - usually do from Wigan fans, mind. :thumb:

Syskes was, yes - Jeffries was dropped. Although Sykes has been OK at 6 before. I said at the match that had we have had a really effective half-back we'd have won that game. And we defo missing Solomona (the turn-up-to-play version) or similar.

jeffries was not dropped. he is injured.

Won't make a long post as Adey beat me to it, and what he said.

This game, at least, no-one can put down to either bad coaching or lack of effort. The pack especially pretty much monstered Wigan all day, even Pala'esina was kept reasonably in check though he did a bit of damage.

We kept Wigan under sustained, controlled pressure for long spells and our defence was by and large excellent - certainly far better than of late.

We crossed the line only to be chalked off four or five times. At an absolute minimum two looked stone cold tries to me.

In picking Newton, McNamara could hardly have predicted what a 'mare he was going to have. A one man destruction show by Tez today, and THE key idiot pass, when we were in front with 8 minutes to go and looking incontrol, was a killer. And as has been commented we got thw rong end of some highly spurious calls in that last few minutes, to add to all the disallowed 'tries', but there yoou go, such is life. Another day they'll all go our way.

Disappointing, but we were not "poor" as some have tried to say, it was a much more encouraging all-round effort and display.
