[quote="cieranblonde"]Like who?

Lennon - big fanfare
Elvis - Huge news
Marvin Gaye (possibly!) - Fairly big news at the time

Theyr the only 3 dead blokes who match the talent of Jackson. Prince isn't dead yet.[/quoJ

Johnny Cash? - one of the most widely admired musical artists ever
Joe Strummer? - part of the greatest punk band ever (suspect thats open to discussion)

oh and Rob Collins of the Charlatans? well I was upset anyway

Why? Hendrix was a genius guitarist but a crap singer and average songwriter.

Personally I feel Jackson had a few more strings to his bow.

Like dancing. And Quincy Jones. Jackson/Jones will never be beaten in pop music

But not many have died who have been so worldwide famous and publicised as Michael Jackson. One of the most famous people to walk the planet, it would be the same if Madonna died, but I doubt there would be any sick jokes going around .

Of course there would. There was shed loads about Diana, Madonna would be no different.

I heard the first one 10 minutes after getting into work this morning.

Can't say it bothers me to be honest, but I suspect that's more to do with my hatred for Political Correctness.

There's no doubt Jackson was a greta pop singer & put out some great pop stuff with great musicians, if that's what turns you on. I prefer some of the Jackson 5 stuff, probably because the well known stuff has been played to death. But IMO he has done nothing in 20 years that has vaguely interested me. He had all the production & technology available to him & utilised it, but I doubt his later stuff will sound fresh in 40 years time, whcih is the difference between him & someone like Hendrix. Or Cash who was still producing classic stuff up to his death.
Keep the sick jokes coming, there is little in life I find beyond a sick joke.
