I was told, by an employee of the club, that a few businessmen sounded out the Board last year about acquiring the club. But all of those deals involved the Bulls moving to VP and a deal being done involving the Council and development of the land. I was of the opinion that the land at Odsal was contaminated and the site had limited development potential, but apparently not. The deal with the RFL was, supposedly, partly intended to prevent this.
It may well be that there wasnt a shred of truth in this. But I absolutely believe that the person who told me this was telling me what he genuinely believed to be the truth. It was what the club was telling him.
Whether any of those businessmen will still be interested in buying the club obviously remains to be seen.
My understanding too, pretty well. I also understood that all of these approaches (they were the ones that were being described as "predatory", I believe) were supposedly by parties whose real interest was in acquiring the Odsal site for development. And that they had no real interest in the Bulls, beyond shuttling us off to VP so the site was freed up, and that the Bulls would be given a very small player budget (well below the salary cap) and left to wither.
For what that may or may not be worth.
If that is the case, then the assignment of the long lease to the RFL totally stymied that option, as was clearly part of the intent.
