As has been said I’d rather us be getting on with signing up our better players than sitting around waiting for the head coach situation to get sorted. We seem to be doing that thank God. I would expect Toovey has told Chalmers who is and isn’t worth keeping.

I’m not really sure what the hold up is over the head coach position. The owner needs to make his mind up and decide that if Toovey hasn’t confirmed by a certain date it’s time to move on. At some point Chalmers will have to make a decision. Then things like assistants can be sorted out and a strength and conditioning coach recruited or the team will be arriving at pre season looking like Brendan Hill. In the meantime so far so good. I hear we don’t have a club doctor or physio either yet so the sooner this is sorted the better too.

Suspect Club may alreadyknow situation re: Toovey and they are just delaying announcing it until majority of season tickets are sold assuming he's going. Didn't we bring a strength and conditioning coach in mid season?

S&C coach to replace Dempsey was only until the end of the season apparently.

How is that relevant?

Tony Smith left Warrington 'at the end of the season' and they have already appointed another coach. They didn't wait until November 30th and then start looking for a new coach...

Granted, he presumably got paid until the end of November, and that could happen with Toovey. Are we just going to wait until November 30th to see if he wants to stick around, then start looking for a coach after the squad is signed and pre-season has started?

Sorry, but that makes no sense to me. Just pay the guy his November salary and everyone can move on!

Sorry but you have now changed what your moaning about, firstly it was who gave him a contract till the end of November not the end of September as you class this end of the season. When informed this is standard in all contracts you moved your view point to something was irrelevant to your original post.

No worries there. When was the last time you heard of a Bulls player getting injured

Sorry, I was going to originally reply to the following post but somehow seems to have been deleted.

If it was 'standard in all contracts' then Tony Smith would still be coach of Warrington, not Steve Price. The fact that Warrington have appointed Price shows that contracts to the end of November aren't rigidly applied and can be subject to change if it suits both parties.

Tony Smith is still technically head coach of Warrington, at least in contractual terms. Steve Price has signed a contract to become head coach and I'm expecting there will be a period of time before he takes this up, or both will be contracted simultaneously.

I'm pretty sure all RL contracts are usually up to and including the last day in November with any new contracts coming into effect as of 1st December. This is I believe to accommodate a universal (UK only) anti tamper deadline. Most sports have this in place.

That said, just because someone is technically employed doesn't mean you cannot employ someone else in the meantime.

Fair enough, I now see that the contract had to be to the end of November.

Does this mean that we must still be waiting around with all the uncertainty? Clearly not. As the Warrington example shows.

Ben Nicholson is the strength and conditioning coach. Pretty sure he's still employed and will still be employed for pre season and beyond.

A month or so ago I was listening to the match commentary when Karl Harrison was helping out and he stated that he may be interested in coming back if the chance arose. The next thing he said was he was due to have a meeting at the club the following week about possibly helping with advising about potential new players for next season.
That is why I think we need to be careful about thinking only Chalmers is deciding everything by himself. If Karl is giving advice about players I would happily accept it. Chalmers will give the go ahead but I am sure he is listening to his coaching staff and others first - which is surely what a good owner does.
Because so little comes out of the club we can many times assume the worst scenario and then run with it.

Depends if that advice is regarding one of the players he represents or not. Don't forget Karl is an agent nowadays. I wouldn't be trusting recommendations he gave about those players, regardless of whether he was right or not. If he was advising on other players though, it would be fair enough.

On the point of contracts lasting until the end of November, don't all employment contracts have an element of annual leave/holidays built in? Contracted players certainly do and will often go, out of season, to whichever sunny spot takes their fancy; I'd expect coaches would be the same, after all there's precious little opportunity during the season.
