Sorry at the delay in correcting this, but the impression that this clears Bird is entirely false.
1. It is an old quote anyway, since the work permit system for sportspersons no longer applies.
2. The highlighted words are the key - the whole paragraph explains why they didn't need a work permit in addition to a visa.

They still need a visa, and he won't get a visa.

I am once agin dissappointed with the RFL, does this mean in 5-6 years Catalans' quota spots will be filled with the finest talent of thugs from the NRL? In theory this could totally ruin SL as Catalans will no longer have to pay for scouts or other staff and will be able to sign any player refused a visa to the UK?
