I don't know, but then again I haven't advocated anybody building a new ground for Keighley. My earlier post was highlighting the fact that Odsal is now your responsibility. You were paid £4 1/2 million to take it on. If that hasn't worked out, then you need to get on to your ex chairman for his lack of costings.
I don't really care about South Bradford, in the same way you lot don't care about Keighley.
I do care about fairness though, and there's no arguing that a lot of money has gone Odsals way. You were supposed to be in control of your own destiny 7 years ago, it hasn't worked out and your back onto the council again. Can you not see why some people would find this a little bit annoying?
Is it not about caring about Bradford rather than South Bradford, North Bradford, Keighley, etc? I would want to see the best stadiums and sports facilities for everyone in Bradford. I wouldn't want to see Keighley go under, any more than I would City or Park Avenue. Are we not all part of the same city?

My guess is that the good burghers of Keighley no more feel part of Bradford than do the millionaires of Ilkley...?

Why don't they go independent then? The Republic of Keighey anyone? Passport control could be at the end of the Bingley by-pass. The horrible end that is, not the nice end.

Last I heard, most of them indeed wanted to...get the old Town Council back.
Then of course we have the situation of Bingley, and the likes of me living in Bingley Rural. UDI for Bingley too??
I can understand why Keighley folk don't recognise the fact that they are in Bradford. In exactly the same way that Leigh is strictly speaking part of Wigan.
Theres a growing level of descent from these small towns who want to gain their independence from the big city that traditionally gives them scant respect. Even Morley is now governed by people who want to take it out of Leeds.
Edit 18:49 17/2/10 - the two paragraphs I have highlighted were not posted by me. Someone has seemingly been abusing their rights and editing someone else's posts. Whether this is in any way connected with a controversy on another thread I have no idea, although I have had the same thing happen to me once on the Hudds board, I assumed by one of their mods.

I have only been wrong once and thats because I thought I was wrong but I was wrong I was right!
Petty authoritarians aren’t man enough to challenge the actions of a person face to face; instead they incite a forum of rumour, innuendo and half truths, and impose rude sanctions to discourage those who dare question fairness.
In a shock move today, Bradford Bulls have been bought by self proclaimed food mogul Mr. Ram Jam Buttyman who has not only pledged to take the club into a new era of success, but to bridge links with the local varied community.
Mr Buttyman , of Anglo, Irish, Scottish, Italian, Bangladeshi decent wants to tap into all aspects of local culture: “I want the bulls to be a bit like me; a bit of everything” he said and revealed plans to work with the community and raise funding to build a peoples stadium for the peoples team. The new facility based at Odsal will be a super mosque which will totally enclose a 25,000 capacity all kneeling stadium known as the “curry bowl”. There will be an adjacent whippet racing track enclosed by a C of E / RC church at one end and a synagogue/betting shop at the other. “I think these revolutionary ideas will appeal to everyone” he said.
The soon to be renamed bulls will ground share with a local Kabaddi team and Mr Buttyman expects dual registration between some of the players. He commented that the Bulls appear experts at avoiding physical contact so they should make great Kabaddi players.
He revealed a revolutionary all new black latex one piece Burka as his home kit, and expects brisk replica sales in the city centre. The away kit is yet to be revealed but is thought to be a toss up between a kilt and a toga.
He commented that the new kit gave him the idea for the new team name – The Bradford Burks which he thought sounded rather catchy. He was also very pleased that coach Macca was changing his name to Mecca as a show of support. The coach commented “we can take a lot of positives out of this”.
When questioned, Mr Buttyman revealed that the extent of his food empire was a burger van, but claimed that his sister had an ice cream trolley and his brother a Roti house. He maintained however, that they had as much chance of raising funding as existing schemes.
PS this is just a bit of fun – absolutely no racial puns intended, just the product of a bored lunch hour. I personally think it will work.

How can you feel part of somewhere with a totally different post code? I didn't mortgage myself to the hilt to be associated with secondary towns in the district.

Places like Leigh and Keighley would never be able to stand on their own two feet. Plus, it would be a total waste of resources to have all these places governed by seperate councils!
I very much doubt that the likes of Leigh, Keighley, Morley and places like Saddleworth would be any better off on their own. They still have their own strong identities, irrespective of being in Wigan, Bradford, Leeds and Oldham!

To follow your logic it would be a better use of resources to merge into a super West Yorkshire council with the seat of power in the major city ie Leeds. Bradford would still have its identity though - how does that suit you?
The metropolitan districts need the "small" outlaying towns more than the towns need them. Bradford would be more of an underdeveloped slum without them.
Its interesting that there were very strong noises that Leeds were trying to pry Bingley, Keighley and Skipton from Bradford Met a few years ago.

Why not? Surely we would be raising roughly the same funding per head via the rates (showing my age there) as at the present, and the number of heads would reduce? In fact, it could be argued that a seperate Keighley borough or council could raise more per head than the combined district, depending how the boundary is drawn.

As opposed to the super efficient BDMC?

That's the issue though, we don't, and there's always a perception that we are picking up scraps. The decision to lump Keighley in with Bradford was a mistake.
Things have improved since the town council was formed around 10 years ago.

.
That's a very good point. I often read Bradfordians greivances towards Leeds re peoples perception and funding, yet the same attitudes prevail when it comes to Bradfords attituide to towards Keighley.
