As it seems there are no half-backs that are feasible in bringing to the club then a Centre (or maybe a FB) must be next in line. Are there any that are likely to become available after anti-tampering? Darrel Goulding has been put in the reserves lately, if we gave him some first team time I imagine he'd do a much better job thn Sykes.
