New coach - Which direction???? : Sat May 23, 2009 5:22 pm
OK, I'm in the camp that believes we need a new coach. This isn't based on results alone but if we continue in our current direction we could be back to pre-Super League crowds which is something none of us want (those old enough to remember). I blame the transfer policy for leading us to our current position because if you sign players from 'lesser teams', eventually you will become one yourself!!!! When was the last time we signed a player the quality of Hape, Big Les, Big Joe????? (Sol excluded although he has been a disappointment)
The club needs a boost and I believe a new coach with new ideas may help in achieving this, but who are the candidates
Brian Mac - Back to his roots, I'd welcome him after the work he has done in London
Brain Noble - It's looking like the boot for him from the Pie Eaters
An Aussie???
Personally I don't believe that Noble is all he's cracked up to be and if you look at his 'offspring' they have hardly set the World alight (Stevie Mac, Jimmy Lowes, Karl Harrison). Brian Smith however is a different story with Tony Smith, Mick Potter and our own Matty Elliot all graduating from the '92 Bronco's side to the upper echelons of coaching (Brian Mac was also under him at Leeds)
Cutting to the point I'd be looking at a young assistant coach at Newcastle or..... you heard it here first Andrew Johns. As far as I know he's still waiting for a big coaching break and we may be able to offer him a step closer towards an NRL job....... After all, that's what Matty Elliot was after
Anyway, keep on supporting the lads, we'll turn it around (eventually)
