You can't argue with what he has achieved so far. But it would be unusual for a top level coach not have been a top level player (injuries aside).

I think I'd want to see what he can do in the Championship next year.

Dewsbury were always going to be big fish in the small pool of Champ 1 this year. Let's see how he goes when he's putting out teams against the likes of Halifax, Widnes and Barrow.

He's certainly doing a top job at Dewsbury, but then again Calland is also doing an excellent job at Halifax, so he falls in the same boat for me.

Warren wouldn't take on the Dewsbury job full time, even though they wanted him to, because he has his own building business. I don't know whether that would change with the lure of a Super League job, but theres not much job security at this level of the game. (unless your name's Steve Mcnamara!)

I disagree with that. Just because someone was a great player it doesn't mean that they'll be a great coach. In football Keegan was a great player but not the greatest of managers. Converselly Ferguson was a fairly average player yet is now the top manager in england.
