SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done But he with a chuckle replied That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it!
Well lets face it they are not very good at the moment [ bit like the Giants really ] so trying to add say 10 or 20 % isn't really that much to aim at
Part of this boils down to do the RFL want the people of Dewsbury watching the Rams or do they want them at the Giants , similar with Leigh people at the LSV or would they rather they go to the DW or the HJ ?

Why , how many people do Quins have in their marketing dept ? , or Celtic
In fact having a think about it today as the Skolars would find it difficult to ' partner up ' you could have them arrange things with Quins and Celtic
It all comes down to money , the non SL clubs dont have any so instead of having maybe one person working on their own not really getting anywhere , you have a team working full time on marketing but ' blitzing ' one club in any given week
The people the clubs supply learn more about marketing as a result so if that club then does get into SL you have an experienced person to head up any marketing that club then does
Like ' training '
So then you would be fine in these people who are learning being 'marked' on how well they are learning it, with this also being obviously helpful in understanding how well this club is run?

which is best for the game?
say 15-20 very strong clubs and 2nd tier which is nothing but a feeder
or one or two very strong clubs, 8 or so strong clubs, and 25 'weak' clubs?
I agree , but the towns where many of the Championship clubs come from are very similar to Leigh , they no longer have large companies operating in them and the corporate support is no longer there [ if it ever was ] , that combined with in some cases the losing of the ' holy Grail ' of SL means chasing that support is a total waste of time
Spread your resourses too thinly and you achive nothing , plus there is time in the ' off ' season to look at that side of things , and for potentially directors to be better suited to deal with it
What I am reffering to is during the season
if that is the case, and the corporate support and sponsorship simply isnt there, and never will be,
then these clubs, unfortunately, will never survive in todays world, and we really cant be focusing our efforts on these clubs acheiving things we know they cant do
if clubs like Leigh dont even have the possibility of having the necessary corporate or sponsorship support, then your right, we shouldnt be chasing it.
But that means we should also understand clubs like Leighs position in the scheme of things. They simply dont have the potential to be SL clubs and we should be looking at strengthening their position in the RL pyramid and how that can improve RL as a whole

I dont think you are grasping the concept
Which people do you want ' marking and how ?
this was the post
Like the suggestion I made about having 4/5 regional marketing managers each overseeing 4/5 clubs , each club to provide 1 person , giving a manager with a team working at each club one week per month , or each club 2 days a fortnight
These regional managers overseen by 1 general manager supplied directly from the RFL
All clubs could then have a team working for them on specific projects part of the time instead of probably one person working full time
The managers then along with the general manager liase with each other on what has worked at different clubs and what hasn't worked
Each club given a budget that the manager overseas , but it is only spent on ' marketing '

IIRC, the Bulls had, around 2000/01, more season ticket holders in Dewsbury than they did in Bradford.
and that's when Dewsbury were fairly successful on the field.

Fair enough , I can live with that , or are you saying without corporate and sponsorship support no club can ever be a success ?
I have been arguing that clubs like Leigh will never get the level of support for ages and the RFL are wasting time and money trying to get clubs chasing it and I've had the likes of you and others saying the RFL know what they are doing
Yes clubs should be and are and want to strengthen their position no matter where that is
As for ' potential ' , well nobody can decide what any clubs ' potential ' is , certainley not you
All clubs should be encouraged and more importantly ' helped ' to improve themselves especially financially given recent events and any money spent needs to be spent in the most productive way , all clubs desperatley need more fans through the gates , especially the ones who we agree will not and probably never will be able to bring in high levels of investment and sponsorship
Yes improve RL as a whole [ whatever that means as it will mean different things to different people ] , but also lets improve the whole of RL while we're at it
