No. They topped the league after the regular season. And got a meaningless league leaders trophy as a result. We won the league by winning the GF and were crowned champions (plus getting a nice promotion as well).
Topping the league after (essentially) the qualifying rounds may be harder to do (in your opinion) but it doesn't mean more than winning the actual competition – which is decided by the grand final.
