I actually think it'd be a great idea if played in an 'expansion' area to showcase our game. Good excuse for a weekend away as well.

It would be a good idea if you can promote it as an high profile event to add to the game's calendar as a way of starting the season now that the WCC is played several weeks in.
But I just cannot see it becoming one.
I doubt it will attract many neutral fans, and playing at a neutral venue how many supporters of the two teams will even travel for what is still only a warmup game? And if it is no different to anything else in pre-season then what is the point of forcing two teams to use one of their practice games to play each other just for the sake of it.
So, no.

We had a fab weekend in Dublin for the Wigan v Leeds game back in the mid-nineties..... had a great time but it did nowt for RL in the area

We did on a dog of a pitch if I recall. Nice idea if August is your pre season like back then but in January! - No ta!
They did a Charity Shield 9 times and it was played at Douglas Bowl on the Isle of Man (four times) then at Anfield, Vetch Field (Swansea), Gateshead (twice) and finally Royal Dublin Showground in Dublin. |
