They seem to be using the words mitigating circumstances a lot at the moment. Surely accidental contact due to the momentum one the player ie player not in total control of a tackle that combines multiple peoples momentum, is that not a mitigating circumstance. In a tough game foul play intentional attempts to injury or hurt cannot be tolerated but the physical nature of the game means accidents and unfortunate injuries will occur.
Initially think the protocol needs to change to initially a yellow card being given with the option of increasing to a red card after further video review that takes place within the 10min period would be better that the initial straight red if there is uncertainty. Red card in Wire v Hull game effectively ruined a closely contested game. How many times will this happen this season?

Doesn't concern me one bit as don't watch it. Secondly you must agree that with what we are seeing its a worry for how the elite level of rugby league in the UK will look in the future. Fans don't want to watch a sport they love have so much stripped away.

Thirdly I can't wait to see the mess this whole thing causes when it comes to firstly the real important games in super league. When a game is killed as a spectacle for the broadcaster and viewers because of this stupidity wait till you see that backlash. Then there is the mess of how international games are refereed. Guessing it will be back to normality for internationals which makes a complete mockery of what the RFL are doing. I guarantee the stupidity around contact with head with the new rules is ignored tonight for WCC. As fans we should be praying for that.

Nah that's what Wilkin was arguing for and I don't agree with it. A yellow will still see teams punished for incidents that don't warrant anything near a sin bin. Not every contact with head deserves these extreme punishments. It won't stop it either. There will be a week where we will see a silly amount of players being sin binned.

What an absolute joke. Yet Thewlis makes direct contact with the head to stop that try and it's missed by both the ref and video ref.

Judging by the abysmal refereeing of this game, I would say not so much missed by the officials but totally ignored. The pair of them were an utter disgrace and completely ruined what was becoming a good contest.

No charge for Brown, and the framework on head to head contact amended. Fair play.

I think holding your hands up and admitting it was a mistake is an improvement on the sort of doubling-down approach RFL officials have had in the past when they make poor decisions. I think we need to be more forgiving of our governing body. They are being forced into acting at pace by Blobby McCokeface et al.
