Not a builder or structural engineer but surely a roof could be erected on the away stand at Headingley? I think the reason a new stand at Leeds is not possible is due to the new rules and regs over how big the steps have to be and would reduce capacity something Leeds are not going to be in favour of. This is why a roof would be a cheaper and surely a more practical option?
A roof on the Western Terrace would significantly increase the height of the stand and would no doubt be objected to by the residents living immediately behind the stand. And given some of the ridiculous objections put forward against the new South Stand plans by certain Leeds City Councillors on the planning cmte, any increase in the WT height would be refused by the Council.
Plus there are issues around the public walkway immediately behind the stand. As I understand it, the lack of redevelopment on the Western Terrace is not to do with cost or step height or reduced capacity but purely on the fact there are residents houses and a public right of way immediately behind the stand.
Since the new screen has only just been put in, I can't see there being any significant work on the WT in the next 5 years at least.
