Failed at what exactly? He was a puppet for SL. You have your answer. Elstone didn’t fail the support did.

Difficult to do anything when the clubs have the vote on any changes because they will always vote with regards to their own self interest rather than the future of the game. For example, the less well off clubs won't vote to increase the cap because they're at risk of going down, but one of the ways we will improve the sport is to allow clubs to pay the best players.

Did Elstone do enough to justify his and his staff wages?
Did Elstone even bring in enough money into the game to even cover his and staff wages?

Be careful what you wish for as your club could become another Bradford quite easily

So could every club. I doubt there are any RL clubs that can survive without money from their owner.
