What were the prices for the euro 2020 final? 6 nations at Twickenham, cricket world cup final etc? If we want to be taken as a more serious sport on the international stage, higher prices sadly come with it

I get that motion but come on £70 to sit in the east stand on Saturday for NZ v Jamaica. Its a pipe dream that will even come close to a third full. The result we all know, itll be a case of how many.

New Zealand v Jamaica isnt a premium game, most of the Jamaica team are part time. I understand the final, England games maybe being over priced but the rest is a joke. Especially since you can watch the games on TV.

I bought into the WC last time over here went to alot of games but sadly this time around itll be a handful if that. Only in RL would we charge horrendous prices for one sided games during a cost of living crisis, when we for once have the entire tournament on free to air. We shoot ourselves in the foot time and time again.

I agree for the group games the prices should be a bit lower, the kcom is a good example...but for England games and semi finals, finals etc, it should be premium pricing to make it feel like a more popular event. Every ticket for tonight's game in Doncaster is £20.21 and concessions are £2.21, you won't get into many super League games for less than that...but it still won't sell out. Even yesterday at headingley it was £20 for a lot of seating / standing... those bits won't sell out....the cheapest seats at the kcom aren't sold out, so is it pricing thats the issue or is it just a general apathy from RL fans at the moment?

Wrong wrong wrong.

If we want to be taken seriously as a sport we need games to be played in full stadiums .

If there is something that says Mickey Mouse sport is then RL community talking about the greatest game , opportunity of a lifetime the best players in the world then all the games being in TV and the grounds being empty .

Showing a TV audience a full ground with great rugby will make people want to try it out and make advertisers think it is worthwhile.

Trying to compete on pricing for RU internationals who sell tickets on a corporate basis to hedge fund managers from the city of London is patently ridiculous .

I went to two games this weekend England v Samoa and Ireland v Jamaica. . 3 tickets at each game for me and the kids was over £200. I am lucky and can afford it but most RL would struggle with that.
Add on petrol and other costs and that is not a cheap few hours out .

Then asking those fans to pay that money for 30 plus games in 4 weeks what do you think is going to happen. I would travel to watch the rest of Irelands games and create some atmosphere but not at those prices when I add on the travel etc.. I would also go and see other more local games . If tickets were reasonable..

I am all for selling tickets based on grading prices and let those who can pay get the best seats but it is bonkers charging £35 each to sit in the rafters at the end of at St James park when there are 2000 empty seats Side on further down. From the point of view of the cameras having those seats full would have looked better on TV. Also for all those casual fans I met who came along and are not RL diehards it would have made their day out more enjoyable and more likely to convince them to come back.

You don’t build an audience by pricing people out from attending games

But if you'd got the cheapest tickets, £30/£15 for concessions and then £20/£10 at headingley, that would have only cost £100, you chose to get the more expensive seats? There were still lots.of £30 seats left at St James park in the upper tier, so fans complaining it's too expensive could have taken those seats?

You have to take into consideration the amount it costs to travel and some may need hotels. Not everyone has alot of disposable income and if they choose to follow England all tournament then will have very little disposable income left.

I mean fine they can hike the prices a bit but still feel like they are taking the mickey, we are not on par with any other sport when it comes to world cups so have no right to try and charge in that bracket.

Comparing this WC with the euros is clutching at straws at best, the advantage football will always have is that on any given day a lesser fancied team can win. In RL that simply doesnt happen.

Hoepfully alot have put money into later in the tournament but the pricing for group stages has being awful. We are not in a position in this sport to charge what we like because thats what other sports do.

Re: The World Cup : Mon Oct 17, 2022 10:15 am
Pricing, look at it this way, the ticket prices have been known for many many months, over a year for the final.

If you'd put the money for the price of a pint per week away you would have paid for the tickets comfortably.
Please stop all the negativity, we went up to Newcastle for the weekend and had a superb time, we've also got tickets for England v France at Bolton and the semi final at Arsenal. Just enjoy what we've got.

I thought I got the cheapest sitting seats a available . But even paying £10 for a 5 year old going to his first RL match in a 1/4 stadium is not great marketing. It would have been better if they said all kids free with one adult ticket . You would get more people in .
As for ST James park I got 3 £35 tickets to sit up high which is ridiculous when there were 12,000 £70 tickets that no one bought .

I would have thought it is easy enough to have 3 grading of tickets and then sell out the tickets from the pitch upwards . That way the early buyers are rewarded but then plenty cheaper seats for the casual fans and then sell the stadium out. If with a week to go you have sold 43 , 000 tickets with everyone in the better seats announce all remaining tickets at £10 each and sell the stadium out . Buns on seats makes the game look bigger with more interest

But then if you go down to £10 each for all remaining tickets, do you then annoy everyone that's bought a ticket and then everyone holds off buying a ticket for future games for the very last minute in the hope of getting a discount as they did in 2013...and that legacy is still living on today for this tournament?

I don’t think it would annoy everyone.

The earlier you buy tickets the better the seat you get .

The later you buy tickets then you are likely to get the worst seats. Only at the end do you offer a cheaper price to sellout but that way you will be up in the rafters so anyone waiting to get a cheaper ticket will be getting a worse view.

If I want to see a game or even the theatre I look at what I can afford and then the best seat available. I think most people do that.

I would not resent someone getting a cheaper seat than me knowing they are up with the bats , with a restricted view or have to climb 12 flights of stairs to get there.

Even if they have paid cheaper I would feel pleased that it has become a great event with a better atmosphere which is what you get in a full stadium.

For me it is simple it is about growing the game . If you resent someone getting a a £10 cheaper ticket than yourself it is pretty petty minded knowing it is for the benefit of RL which will have a marked benefit to your club.

Re: The World Cup : Mon Oct 17, 2022 3:39 pm
The problem with the pricing is people have seen the highest price tickets such as the ridiculous £70 at Hull and Saints and then bad word has spread and people then just think 'I won't bother then'.

The stadiums they are playing at are modern grounds with good views in all blocks, there simply isn't a need to pay the premium to sit on the half way line. There's too many price categories they only need 3 at most, one price for behind the sticks, one for down the sides and then one for the padded seats/corporate.

And while I appreciate they have a difficult job of not ripping off the people who booked tickets 2 years ago, a reduction in prices for the cost of living crisis would have gone down well on the PR front, instead they've stubbornly stuck to their guns and now appear to be in a trench they can't get out of now.
