i have been told by some''septic tanks''yanks. that they love watching the AFL on tv
if i remember right this started in the 80's becuase of some argument over tv sports rights, so a network (ESPN??) started showing overseas sports to fill gaps in the schedule and AFl became the most shown, it still has a small hardcore audience there. Dont quote me on this but i vaguely remember reading something about last year.

espn classic used to show rugby league matches from the 80's and 90's, both Australian and British.

When Hull KR got promoted they said there was only room for one elite team in Hull... how right they were!

Maybe because the people involved in the US are the same bunch of walter mitty nutters who have been saying stuff like this for years?
See
http://wesclark.com/rrr/us_rugby_league.html for example
...and ten years later?
Meanwhile, rational earthlings just get on with working hard and organising their sport without talking fruit loop nonsense - see
http://www.usarugby.org/ and use the "find a club" tool, where there's more clubs with names beginning with "B" than the AMNRL have in their entire organisation!

STOP PRESS: This story just gets better and better - have a look at this stuff we were hearing in 1997 FFS
http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-4370954.html
I'd forgotten all about that! The sooner our sport stops getting wound up by these jokers, the sooner we can just get on developing real opportunities

the amount of money pumped into rugby union is incredible. i saw a feature on the set up over there on total rugby and i was blown away. nigel melville and his team have put a ton of work in and now they are starting to see the fruits of that effort.
a good international calender also helps the game develop.
