The game is on its knees financially.

Most clubs - despite the handouts are on the brink.

Here we have a Man who has saved one club - could well save another (Swinton) & has the resources to buy virtually every club in the RFL & Super League.

So - what do the RFL do?

I just think this is a huge own goal. As the Jap Admiral said in Tora Tora Tora `I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

Despite the daft title to this thread by the OP I would be delighted to be called mad if I had his financial muscle.

So tell us, which other operational rules do you think the RFL should ignore?

Charlie - You are new to the Forum and presumably new to the game.

The Doctor has provided more column inches in the National Press this last year than many years combined previously.

The meeting was a meeting of Supporters & he used the f word to get his point over. Probably at the rate of £200 per f word.

The man is a breath of fresh air and not one to take lightly & the game needs more of his ilk.

Really? I seem to recall the RFL having a pretty decent few years financially and there being a few bob in the bank.

Most eh? Wakefield are now living within their means, as are Castleford. HKR are edging towards self sufficiency and other than Bradford, I see little evidence of anyone being on their knees. Even London are now back on a financial footing after the restructure. The owner has rediscovered his passion and has declared publicly he will not let the club fold.

So what? He's wealthy, but that doesn't give him the right to ride roughshod over the game and it's governing body...or their operational rules for that matter.

They punish someone who broke the operational rules. That's part of their remit.

Good for you, but unfortunately for the Good Doctor, you don't get to make such decisions.

Early Bath wrote:

 Way to over-egg the pudding their buddy. Marwank can walk if he wants. All we lose is a club in SL who would probably drop down a division or two.....he broke the rules, he gets the penalty. If he can't handle that, then the game is better off without him.

The saying does that the difference between insanity and eccentricity is about £5,000,000. He is most assuredly a character and a breath of fresh air, but he is not above the rules. He now knows that there is a line and he now knows where it is. He's crossed it and it's cost him an amount he probably can find with a quick search down the back of his sofa. If he does it again, I'd be happy to see the RFL smack another 0 on it. He'll learn!

A thousand quid ? He probably loses that much down the back of the settee every day.
I'm not a Salford fan and don't have a problem with the Doc. He generates much needed column inches. As long he doesn't believe he's become bigger than the game, let him run.

Good morning New Zealand - the man with a hands on approach who hasnt paid to see a match for years.

If you feel the game is financially sound then I would like to have a chat with your Bank Manager. He may lend us all a few quid.

Just look at the combined Balance Sheets of all the clubs. Absolute disgrace and the whole lot could collapse in a heartbeat.

Ken Davy is 70+, Jack Fulton 70+ Eamon McManus Retired etc etc. These men will not go on forever to pick up the tab.

Dr K has helped to save Wakey by buying Smith within days of Mr Carter finding the black hole so dont sneer at what he has done.

He has saved Salford and created much needed press in the pro RU newspapers. The devilution is certainly taking shape and upsetting the theorists who sadly fail to put their hands in their pockets.

How about the Fit and Proper Person test as it seems to have failed Bradford Bulls while it is being so well micro-managed by the RFL?

How about the one about being prejudicial to the interests of the game? Bit rich coming from the RFL with their conduct over recent years.

How about the Salary Cap? Looking at clubs outside of Super League now,and how the conduct at Barrow was revealed tends to indicate the RFL haven't got a clue.

Instead they make public something as risible as this.It was a bit of badinage - to a select group of people, none of whom were offended or considered it prejudicial to the sport.

It just indicates the insecurity of the governing body and their continued prejudice towards certain clubs.

Why pay if I can wrangle freebies? Does that make me less of a fan?

Alas, it is not my bank manager you need to approach. Mrs G won't let me play with money or sharp objects as I am a danger when I have either.. 8)

All sports are in this position. You could buy all of SL with the interest payments on the top 10 premiership clubs debts alone......having cash doesn't give anyone the right to "do/say as they please".

Early Bath wrote:

So? Are you saying the game should whore itself out to younger benefactors? I think David Hughes is a loving lunatic and he's ploughed more money into the Broncos in the last 5 years than Marwank will ever dare to drop......and If hughes dropped the F bomb, I'd expect him to get fined too.

Early Bath wrote:

Does he wear his undies outside of his tights? They Guy has "saved" nobody and I hope he is in it for the long run, but for now, all I see is a spin doctor who likes to have things his own way and who whines like a stuck pig when he doesn't get his own way. As I say, a breath of fresh air, but not above the game.

Salfords Devilution is taking shape nicely.........good luck to him the club and its fans, but it changes not one Iota the FACT that he broke the rules and got a fine. Deservedly!
