But enough about Australia, so what does everybody think went wrong with England?
They played to the best of their ability against the three teams they met, England have been spouting for years about how good they are at various sports whilst being generally low grade performers.....for years in both RL and RU the English attitude has been to have a pack of blubbering forwards that are too slow to catch a cold and expect them to wear down the opposition pack,..this succeededyears ago,but nowadays it doesn't work, justlook at the Australian & New Zealand packs at least four in each pack are fast enough to play in the back lines, whilst the poms are so slow they could have THEIR handbags snatched by an old lady and be unable to catch her.

Nothing really went wrong in that anything particularly unexpected happened. Before the tournament it was obvious that the England side lacked creativity in attack, was average to weak in the threequarters, had no attacking threat from full back, a non existent kicking game and a one trick pony at scrum half when you need more than that to fool a top class defence. They were never going to win even if they played up to their best. New Zealand OTOH had good enough individuals to be close in individual talent to the Australians, played to their ability and took advantage of the bounces that went their way to win well in the end.
Until England find genuinely creative and skillful down the middle players at 1, 6, 7 and 13 (they are enough options at 9) then you can forget all your sports psychologist bunkum because you can't win without the talent.

Keith Senior lifts lid on why Great Britain failed in World Cup
ENGLAND centre Keith Senior has announced his international retirement and lifted the lid on why his country's World Cup performance was so bad: the players didn't get on.
Leeds centre Senior said there was a divide between players from his Super League side and rivals St Helens.
The clubs, who featured in last year's Super League grand final, had 15 of the 24 players in Tony Smith's squad but didn't jell as England lost two of their three group matches and failed to go past the semi-finals.

Biggest surprise for me was our lack of defence ability to cover a sliding dummy running attack. At times watching the inside man comein whilst the outside man stayed out was schoolboy stuff. Not sure what defensive patterns Smith put in place but it was shocking!
