I'm not sure what Sinfield has done individually this year to get nominated but I'll still vote for him purely because of my RL bias. There is no doubt how good he has been for Leeds but I feel the nomination is possibly recognition for his career rather than this year.
If Leeds don't get team of the year someone wants shooting (though they'll probably give it to Andy Mur..... Sorry team GB.
True it's definatley a career nomination but it's not the first time they've done it. In 2009 Ryan Giggs won the award and that was swayed by his long career in the game, Phil Taylor in darts came second one year and hasn't been nominated any other year even though he won loads year upon year. AP McCoy won, he obviously won the Grand National that year but can't recal other Grand National winning jockeys ever being nominated before so obviously his career was taken into account.
And even though it's an "of the Year" award, quite frankly I don't think their's anything wrong with putting someone in based on their career in the right circumstances and I think this warrants it. Had his final season ended trophyless or with just one trophy then hard to put him in, but he captained his side to all three prizes.
