Today’s Super League West Yorkshire local derby between Wakefield and Huddersfield had just 4,055 at the game.
We need the expansion clubs or we’ll end up as an amateur sport.
1,700 Toulouse fans rattling around a 4k stadium.....London now consider 1,000 a good gate.....both cities have more of a Union pedigree with Stade Toulousain averaging 17k , whilst Quins 22k and Saracens 15k are both much better supported. Toronto......they had an 'away" event at a local downtown pub at the weekend, attended by a hundred or so people........without the beer tents and free tickets they'll struggle to get 3k to games and free tickets aren't free to Argyle......he's bleeding cash and owes suppliers money........his CEO and driving force has left and hasn't been heard of in the media since November........it's all smoke and mirrors.
I am all for expansion but not just as a pin dropping exercise.......if we are to expand then we need to expand the playing pool.......Toulouse will need to hire 10 to a dozen Anzacs if they are to compete in SL.....how is that helping French RL? If London get up, they'll have to do something similar......but both those sides are doing well in the 2nd tier with home grown talent and I'd rather they stayed in the 2nd tier and continued the development rather than a season of getting hammered by the likes of Leeds and Wigan....
