There was one return in the second half when he took a real battering from King, got up, was hit by another of the big forwards, got up again, then was finally clattered. Not bad for somebody who was shirking work.
It is getting tiresome that whenever Penny plays now, we have the fans of the opposite team criticising him because he is not some sort of amalgam of Dally Messenger, Brian Bevan, Ellery Hanley, Gorden Tallis and Mal Meninga. He's Kevin Penny - a young, exciting, inexperienced winger who is learning fast in the most maddeningly inconsistent rugby league team in the country. He'll have good days; he'll have bad days. In a couple of years, we'll know whether the fuss was justified.
