Why they can't just groundshare a tidy 15,000 seater stadium in Normanton I'll never know. 18,000 and you'd both make money off Challenge Cup semis and England A .

Can't we all just get along?

How would it be funded? wakefield have no money to put into a stadium (they cant sell bv as they don't own it) it would just mean that cas had to find more money for a larger stadium and to purchase land and that the whole process would have to start again, this option would be more difficult and take longer than either nm or gh.

I was being hypothetical.

I was also not aware that WMDC aren't actually putting as much in as I thought.

Shame really.

Best of luck to both clubs, I think you're both going to need it.

Re: Stadium Developments : Wed Dec 07, 2011 11:29 am
I posted this last night on the Wakefield Board, I think it prudent it is posted here too. Then the following post will be a response and as far as I am concerned the matter is closed and we move on.

Right, I don't really intend to get into a debate on this but will say my piece.

Barton Willmore are acting on behalf of an objector and possibly being jointly financed by another developer who has had their site rejected for Newmarket. We don't know, we think we know, but don't for certain.

Barton Willmore have written to Richard Wright and asked him to write a letter, exactly what they have asked him we don't know... but they have asked him to write that letter. Barton Willmore are a well established, respected and professional planning consultancy, I am sure that they will have not misrepresented themselves to him and they will have explained who they are, whom they are acting on behalf of and why they would like this information. I don't believe Barton Willmore would have tricked Richard Wright into writing this letter, they have asked for it and he has taken the decision to write this letter. I think that Barton Willmore will have seen this as a punt worth taking. They clearly had decided on this as one of their arguments against Newmarket, so they would have gone down this route no matter what RW did or didn't write. I suspect they might have been surprised and pleased to get a reply!

The issue for me comes right here! I can't see anyway that Richard Wright did not know for whom and for why he was asked to write this letter. As many people have posted, other than a bit of Cas spin, the content of the letter is nothing that RW has not said before in the press pre-July.

He has taken a decision to write this letter in the full knowledge of what they were going to use it for, to use it to object to Newmarket!!! I am sorry but at this point Richard should have written back, very politely, and said that he did not wish to comment any further and that his previous comments on this matter are available in media records.

Simple!

He didn't do that and that is very disappointing and I think it lacks professional integrity and common courtesy!

I think that the some of the posters from Cas who are defending his decision should actually just put the boot on the other foot. If James Elston had been asked and then written to a group objecting to WR, maybe Edinburgh House, saying that Castleford could ground share at Newmarket, intimating that there is no need to build a supermarket on the WR site how would Cas fans feel?

Come on, be honest?

Re: Stadium Developments : Wed Dec 07, 2011 11:48 am
In response to Richard Wrights statement this morning - http://www.castigers.com/article.php?id=1931 I would just like to comment as follows.

It is a shame that Richard Wright did not take the opportunity to clarify why he felt he need to respond to the questions raised and asked directly of him by Barton Willmore, whom he clearly knew to be working on behalf of a group objecting to the Newmarket development. He has said that there is nothing new in what he said in this letter and indeed, I would say that is correct. So in that case, why did he write the letter just to them and if he felt he needed to clarify his and Castleford Tigers position on this issue, why was the letter not sent to the planning inspector, sent to all parties, or issued as a general media release... or even, just left it alone completely, which should have been his decision IMO!

He has missed the opportunity to either clarify why he felt the need to write this letter, or in hindsight apologise for possibly make a misjudgement in issuing this letter to Barton Willmore, knowing for whom they were working but that he he stands by the actual content of the letter. That is shame and I still think the initial release and this statement lack clarity and indicates a potential lack of professional integrity on his part.

Right, that is it, move on!

I agree with your point IA. Imagine if the boot were on the other foot. Imagine, for example, if James Elston had said something like this the day before the licence decision was communicated (taken from Sky Sports website):

"I think we're further ahead than other clubs," said Elston, in a clear reference to neighbours Castleford, whose plans to move into their own new stadium have been put back 12 months following a decision to sell their current ground for retail development instead of housing.

"We have no issues with financing, that's all in place. We're waiting for the inspectorate to make a decision on the inquiry in December and we expect to get an answer back in January or February, which would give us a March-to-April start."

That would have been TERRIBLE. I'm glad it didn't happen.

Errrm, first are sure you really want to start this?

If you think this is the same thing, then sorry, your are misguided.

For every media release or statement that James or Wakefield released there will one that Richard Wright and Castleford released in a similar vein or with a similar intimation pre-July. I am sure lots of people will be along soon with media releases issued by Richard and James that highlight this perfectly.

I gave a very similar theoretical alternative position and asked a (possibly rhetorical) question based on this! You have chosen to ask a different question to arrive at an answer that you wanted to give.

That really is it now!

What does that even mean?! James Elston was asked by a reporter how he thought Wakefield's plans for a new stadium were going. To which he answered "I think we're further ahead than other clubs", which they are if the planning inspector signs off early next year. He then went on to reiterate that "We have no issues with financing, that's all in place. We're waiting for the inspectorate to make a decision on the inquiry in December and we expect to get an answer back in January or February, which would give us a March-to-April start", which we do, will and would. Whether that's a positive or negative decision, time will tell, but all of which he said was true. If you're trying to compare a press interview and generic response to a letter supporting a group objecting to a rival clubs planning application, of which he has no business being a part of, then you're sadly misguided.

James Elston in no way directly referenced Castleford Tigers and even if you fill in the blanks and realise that it was Castleford he was talking about, at least he had the moral decency not to say "I think we're further ahead than Castleford Tigers, we have no issues with financing, that's all in place unlike Castleford Tigers". That too would have been true, but he didn't say it, and that's the point IA is making.

What an awful, TERRIBLE man.
