I think the comment was in response to a post about aussies smacking poms, whereas in vella's case it seems it was teh other way around (allegedly)

Saying that, contrary to popular belief, it was Crossman who got decked! Maybe that's why he buggered off!

Besides, Vella has never really been regarded as an enforcer, nor claimed to be some sort of hard case (that I'm aware of).
