I think 'homegrown' referred to players who had come through Hull's academy system, as opposed to UK born players.
All credit to Huddersfield for playing 15 UK born players yesterday, though, and for the performance they put in.
Brian Noble, and the other anonymous 'great thinkers', comments were beyond a joke. Far beyond. Rather than invest in the grass roots of OUR game to increase the future GB playing pool, he suggests signing 14 highly paid Union internationals on ridiculous salaries. He claims it would be worth it if only ONE were to make the grade!
Has he been living in a cave for the last 10 years? RU is now full time professional. The Guiness Premiership salary cap is £4million. It's fair to say the top players will probably be on £300k+. To sign 14 of these would equate to an investment in excess of £4million
per year. All the hope of signing ONE who would enhance our game at international level!
His comments were embarrassing, more for him than for the game itself. But it is scary that someone who has such a prominant voice within the game has such other-worldly ideas.
