having watched the game again, McGillvary was excellent. did a lot of the dirty work bringing the ball out, and always made a few post contact metres. a very underrated performance. his injection into the line early in the set leading up to the final try was very important

McGilvary is phenomenal at making the hard yards, i’d say he’s the best in the World at it. After the World Cup several NRL clubs wanted to sign McGilvary, I expect they will now be circling around Tommy Makinson. Both our wingers were excellent, they are far superior to Tom Johnstone.

Thanks for the concern but I'm just fine. :HEARTKISS:

Shame on me for actually wanting to read/discuss comments that are relevant to a post. Next time someone posts about a signing I'll make sure to derail the thread by commenting on how poop they are compared to *insert name of favourite player here*.

Your right it isn't about just scoring tries and I personally think Makiisnon has justified his call-up, but picking up Johnstone and calling him a speed bump again, what does that make McGillvery, he made just 43 tackles and missed 21 last season, now that is shocking, Johnstone made 104 and missed 29, Johnstone has also just about made twice as many tackles busts as him, what does that tell you about those 2 then? even taking into account McGillvery played 20 games this season Also, you say that Morgan isn't a centres winger, neither is Tupou really with only 7 try assists.

ATEOTD It's pretty obvious they offer different things and have different styles just by looking at the stats, Johnstone quicker and will take more advantage of open space and is an out and out try scorer, while Makinson a better defender and probably stronger in hit-ups but doesn't score as many tries, plus Makinson is a few years older and has more experience.

By the way, just referring to stats isn't always the best, especially when Makinson has played 8 more games than the person you're comparing him to this season, 32 to 24, so his stats should be better in some areas.

Bennet will always look at the bigger picture Johnstone is a very good winger whilst Makinson is a very good rugby league player. If Johnstone doesn't get any scoring opportunities most of the time he will be isolated on the wing, if Makinson doesn't get any scoring opportunities he will contribute a bit more in other attacking plays and defensive reads.

Last season Makinson got very poor service from his half backs and centre yet he was one of our stand out players in his contribution and commitment in almost every game.

As someone who watches Wakefield every week I can assure you that Johnstone is quite the opposite to what you describe, he is one of those players that makes something out of nothing, one sniff at an opportunity and he will go the length of the field, to me he is so much more than your average wing man.

Let us stick to posts about SL players in and out. All discussion on Johnstone vs Makinson or other wingers can go on the other thread.

But almost 50% of his tackle busts were against Catalans and Widnes, Makinson percentage were against Wigan and Hull, the England coaching team would have noted that. Johnstone has had the same centre all through his super league games, Makinson has had 3 different centres and one of them an academy player, the England coaching team would have noted that also.

Is Johnstone a better team player with one try assist, Makinson seems to be more involved and more productive with 7 try assists.

Back on topic, an already small poor Salford squad is looking significantly weaker and smaller. London must think all their Christmases have come at once. How many players do Salford even have?

Salford Red Devils
Ins: Ed Chamberlain [Widnes Vikings], Greg Burke [Widnes Vikings]
Outs: Levy N'Zoungou [Hull FC], Luke Burgess [Retirement], Lama Tasi [Warrington Wolves], Weller Hauraki [Hull KR], Ryan Lannon [Hull KR], Craig Kopczak [Wakefield Trinity], Jack Littlejohn [Released], Gavin Bennion [Released]. Kris Brining [Released]
Out of Contract:-
Derrell Olpherts

Wow what are they playing at, presuming Olpherts signs a new deal that still only leaves them with a 17 man squad, some serious off season signings to be made.
