Watched the England v Spain wheelchair rugby earlier, that was one brutish game. Hats off to all the wheelchair players, they take some knocks during a game.

Had 2 cheeky £5 bets on Tonga v Samoa, both came in and now £51 to the better, plus a great game to watch.

“You are playing a game of football this afternoon but more than that you are playing for England, and more even than that, you are playing for right versus wrong. You will win because you have to win. Don’t forget that message from home. England expects every one of you to do his duty.”

Re: The World Cup : Sun Nov 06, 2022 6:18 pm
Cracking game this afternoon, I hope there were lots of Southerners watching who fancy a ticket for next week.

The level of interest amongst rugby league fans (like RLFANS.com) is a pretty low one, and so if its on telly we don't sell the tickets. We need to see some full stadiums for the last 3 mens games, from what I have seen, we are not even close to selling out a game this tournament.

That game today should fill any rugby league stadium in the world, but we can't get the crowds in this hemisphere, and the NRL blocks the fixtures even being organised in the other hemisphere.

England v Canada women in rugby union had a higher attendance than any rugby league World Cup game so far bar the opener

It was also played in a country with no affinity to either team.

Also played in a country where rugby union is the national sport. Plus you forgot to mention that the semi final was a double header which also had the host nation playing.

215,434 is the cumulative attendance so far, if we can get some big crowds for the England Quarter, Samoa v Tonga, and the semis/final then the best attended tournament of all time should be achievable.

273,541 with 3 games to go. Can't beat 2013 :(

Where's the best places to head for a couple of pre game drinks for the Emirates game? Are there many bars around Finsbury Park?

I think they'll include womens and wheelchair attendances too to put a positive spin on things.

And while the Team this time round have had it tougher with the years delay, I dont recall 2013 being some economic paradise either and the team back then was far smaller than 2021. Questions have to be asked about the organisation of this tournament. The only saving grace is likely they have made more money due to higher average price of tickets.

and we've already had 28 games.

The three extra might get us to 400k which isn't too bad, but as other have said, this cup has not been very well organised at all. The turn out for Kiwis v Fiji and Aussie v Lebanon was shocking. World class sport on the doorstep and 7,000 of the 18,000 regular FC/HKR fans rock up, whilst 20 miles from Leeds or Manchester was deemed too far for the tens of thousands of RL fans to consider going to Huddersfield to see the stars of the NRL.

Pay on the gate would have been a good fall-back option they could've introduced once it became obvious that uptake wasn't as good as expected.

At least one stand unreserved at non England, non semi and Final games would have been good too, some like the flexibility of turning up and sitting with mates who have booked seperately. Also usually helps the atmosphere at people get there early to get a good seat.
