don't think it was this week pearson said that, it was after the debacle at either warrington or wakefiled if i remember correctly. Either way it hasn't materialized yet........unless you count matty dawson

Aah - my bad. I'd seen a post with a link to the HDM saying words to that effect but when I tried it I got swamped with ads and didn't have the patience to read it. Hadn't realised it was from back then.

Was the money needed? The side was good enough to win a GF in 2017. But we now have a new ground to fill and need an x factor to make sure the crowds rock up. Also, there's the intriguing possibility that GH is trying to send a message to certain rival chairmen who feel they have a better grasp on how the game should be encouraged to flourish. Pretty sure Pearson has only this week promised the Hull fans some major signings in the coming weeks so maybe the stakes are being raised?

Merrrin is coming to leeds having pretty much done the lot in NRL, this 4 year deal will probably be his last so don't think commitment will be an issue he probably would only have 2-3 years left in NRl as a top earner anyway. delighted we have signed without out a doubt one of the best forwards in the world even and still relatively at his peak.

Whilst we won the GF in 2017 that looked a long long long way off mid 2016 when signings for 2017 are usually being made. We sat in 12th place in the that summer and do people really think we had this money sat their to spend and just couldn’t be bothered and went for Cory Aston and Jack Ornondroyd instead?

3 things Hetherington has been opposed to for a few years now, marquee signings, raising the salary cap and running a reserve team. All cost money and as soon as the ground being finished one of those changes and I fully expect us to flip flop on our stance towards the other 2 issues in the not to distant future. Hell even if they thought signings weren’t necessary why weren’t we giving the likes of Watkins and Hall marquee spots to keep them away from any potential bids from RU or the NRL.

Flip flop? Given the power shift, I suspect the reserves and SC issues will be decided upon by Elstone and the "big 11" regardless of whatever stance GH cares to adopt. But he may wish to show who's boss regardless of whatever rules they decide upon.

Can't answer your question re Watkins and Hall as I don't know what they earn/ed at Leeds. Maybe it was felt the notion of one or 2 marquee players would undermine morale amongst the others. Either way, I personally wouldn't offer marquee terms to either a winger or a centre however good they were though that's not the same as saying Leeds took that stance.

Maybe so. Then again, maybe Pearson does have a signing or two up his sleeve. Time yet.
