29 year old (past it) Trent Merrin has played 204 NRL games including winning an NRL Grand Final. He’s played 13 state of origin games and for Australia 7 times. However the big question is, is he good enough for Super League. The real test will come when he faces the likes of Salford, Wakefield and London, will he be upto the job.

I must admit to have never heard of him, so I googled a video. It shows him twisting over a few times to score and girly punching a winger who wasn't looking. I'm not sure where he gets his rep from. Another Spud Carroll.

Yeah we had a player with a similar CV called Anthony Tupou and no he wasn’t - you’re so easy.

Yep, the highest paid player in our history of our club, quite obviously diluting the quality around him with what we was able to spend. When he came over he was still one of the top second row forwards in the NRL and it was noted that he had offers on the table from several NRL clubs at the time, having watched him that season I thought we was on to a real winner. He was solid enough at times and you could tell the effort was there, but never really made any sort of an impact, in the end he struggled to keep up with the rest of the team.

On paper this is a great signing but we know that it does not always work like that, for Merrin`s wage they could probably have got 3 Craig Kopczak type players, not going to set the world alight yet are a good standard and they are not then putting all there eggs in one basket.

Hurrell and Merrin strengthen Leeds a lot, I don`t think you will find anyone that will disagree with that, but it is a long season and injuries so very easily happen in this game, take those two players out of that team and with the departures already announced and the rumoured departures they could be in for another disappointing season.

If I was a Leeds fan I would be hoping for a good few more in comings and I think the actual Leeds fans on here (SKS is clearly not a Leeds fan) realise that, we know as the season draws closer it is going to become more and more difficult to find the quality they want.

How do you know they will go well do you have a crystal ball.

You seem easily impressed by reputation, thought you might have learned by now.

The crucial signing for Leeds is Furner, if he can’t lift the TEAM then frankly it doesn’t matter how bigger name signings he makes.

Ok. I suspect they will go well based on what I have seen of them. Many people bemoan the quality of imports nowadays but those 2 can't be sniffed at?

Pretty much. I think it was craig hkr that made the point that beyond Merrin, Hurrell and Watkins he couldn't see to much top 4 material. Based upon last year he's spot on though naturally us Leeds fans hope that the other players have received a rocket/been given a lift as needed. And while we could have signed 3 Kopczak-type players for the Merrin money, with every respect to CK, that wouldn't sell the tickets needed to start paying off the builders. See also the point you've made about required quality.

"I'm a Wakefield fan and don't like to see Leeds do well" Wow, no wonder Leeds fans bang on about our small club mentality when we have fans like you, I like to see Wakefield do well, must admit I do enjoy beating Cas/Leeds/Hudds when we play them but outside of that I could not care less how Leeds are doing tbh, why don`t you put your energy into actually supporting your own club rather than doing a Sir Kev/Jean special and spending all your time and effort on here hoping another club fail?

No what they have signed is a reputation - come back in 12 month and then you'll know if he's still quality.

Also will take more than one player to turn Leeds around.
