I'm looking forward to McManus proposing a vote on re establishing the under 21s comp at the next meeting now the clubs can afford it, as he feels so strongly about it not being in place.
Another 9+ page post on Marwan Koukash. How many is this now in the last 12 months? People just can’t stop talking about him. In contrast how many posts do you think we’ve had about Eamonn McManus? Not many I bet, zzzzzzz…
Koucash has never stated he would demand everyone spend on the marquee player. He has at no stage decided that everyone has to spend what he wants. Simply that they are allowed to.
If McManus can't afford a marquee player. Dont buy one. Just don't demand that nobody is allowed to.
Maybe my own fault for not being clear, it was this bit "(Koukash) is quite dismissive of any alternative view point." which I was referring to, but never mind.

No you didnt. The rewards of youth development are the reward in and of itself. What McManus proposes doesnt reward those clubs for investing in youth development, it protects their position at the top and makes it a lot harder for those below to challenge.
Could you explain the protection aspect, I'm genuinely not following what you mean here. TIA.

Leeds, Saints and Wigan already have the best youth development systems and most youth developed players in their squads, so they will get the most money to spend on bringing in better players, they continue to be the best teams and biggest names, continue to be able to attract the best youngsters, continue to have the most youth developed players in their first team, continue to have the most money to spend on players etc etc.

Salford have already disproven this, signing a lot from the traditional Wigan area, including a Hanley ...
There's a myth success is required for youth development. Youth development is required for success. All youth development needs is money!

But those players are 5/6/7 years away from being first team players, and thats just the first cohort. How many different cohorts are already with Saints? James Roby didnt come through at the same time as Lomax did he? It will probably take at least, with a leedsesq 2004 Golden generation, 3 or 4 cohorts to fill a sqaud. I have no qualms with him being expected to do so, but Koucash is looking at a decade of heavy investment in youth development just to catch up, never mind start over taking clubs.
To take advantage of the new rules, it would take 3 years, he could buy in the very best 18 year olds from saints Wigan and Leeds, play them in the academy for a few years, and then build them into the team, whilst bringing in players under the cap like everyone else. But he won't, because that doesn't being him the headlines that trying to sign billy slater would.
