Why can't Lock Lane or other amateur clubs provide players?
Can you be confident that this NRL fringe player at best, actually knows who and where Castleford is and really will be a club man?
Anyway at least people will understand why we can't produce players in this country and where money is being wasted.
Don't think he will make Cas any better than a team making up the numbers when the SL 8's start
Do you not think if the kids with enough quality were knocking about they would be knocking on the door at the Tigers? The cream will rise to the top without any handouts or favours because they are local lads. Thats not fair on the players if they arent good enough or with promotion and relegation now the clubs need to guarantee they can compete. There arent that many amateur sides in Cas at the moment with the full structure down to the juniors. With Cas Panthers having all sorts of problems, Lock Lane are the premier team in Cas at the moment.
Yes he didnt play much this year but wasnt just a fring NRL player at Manly, and push come to shove the queensland/NSW cup competitions are not too far off being SL standard over here. The standard of SL compared to 10-15 years ago is very much so down for me, and if kids arent coming through with an inferior competition the problem runs deeper than the clubs it stems down to junior coaches at amateur clubs and the practices that are/are not being implemented.
I'm not having this view about english players not getting a chance. Look at the international side now 10 years ago the England/GB side would have been predicted months before. We now have genuine competition for places in a lot of positions. We have more options for longer than i can ever remember.
This isnt just a signing that is a panic buy or anything, Daryl Powell is a very astute coach who will have researched every inch of the player to fit in with the playing side and culture of the club
