Championship, Championship One and AB Sundecks Format for 2024 Following a meeting of Betfred Championship and League One clubs last month the RFL Board has confirmed the structure for the 2024 season – including a new, expanded format for the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup. The Betfred Championship will continue as a 14-team competition, with the top six teams qualifying for a Play-Off series culminating in a Grand Final to determine the champions. Every time these clubs get together the proposals are always the sport shrinking further in the pursuit of short term thinking. Why aren't IMG coming up with something better than 'Kick out the expansion teams and play as many games as possible against teams down the road'?

I don't think the clubs are who we should be blaming. The RFL foisted an expanded 1895 cup format in order to provide extra fixtures for L1. That probably introduced new travelling, logistical and financial pressures among other things. That's on the RFL.
