SKOLARS FIELD 16 BRITS FOR SECOND WEEK! Northern Rail Cup 22 February 2009 - London Skolars 14 Doncaster 40 Skolars are fielding a predominately British side including mostly London and South East produced players. For the second time in a week Skolars came up against a side in the division above theirs and although they fell to defeat it was an improved performance in their first home game of the season. Skolars took an early lead after some inventive kicking play earned them a good field position, Austen Aggrey finishing off the move with a try in the corner. well done wish my club would field 16 brits some weeks we cant manage 10

Obviously well done, but hasn't it been pretty much forced on them by the new home office regulations that have also affected other clubs, such as Whitehaven and Gateshead? Surely the days of lower league clubs filling their team with 2nd/3rd rate Aussies has now been ended?

Top flight clubs can still get away with it because the players they are looking to bring over will qualify for a working visa, but the players that would have normally come over like Lewis McPhail, Dean Jamieson and Dan Russell (who were all at Gateshead) no longer qualify. IMO its good to give the local players a chance, but as long as the RFL don't agree to let some players over who wouldn't normally qualify (like they did with Celtic), then its going to make it a hell of a lot more difficult for expansion area teams too do well. I mean will Skolars do as well this year as last? Would Gateshead have won the league without the 3 players who left at the end of the year?
