WELSH RUGBY LEAGUE - PRIDE & PASSION IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY

: Mon Mar 02, 2009 1:14 pm
Of the so called first team squad players only one, David Tangato Toa, has featured in one first team squad this season.

It is not those players I am happy about anyway, to have 13 Welsh born lads in a squad of 17 and beating Leeds Rhinos reserves is a very good achievement regardless.

To be fair, Celtic had a few possible first teamers in there playing.

Right. I've just cleaned this thread.

It's been a good and sensible discussion – it does not require Widnes baiting from anyone.

Kindly consider this to be warning to anyone who considers such derailment.

Anyone who is suprised and perhaps thinks there's something untoward about this result clearly doesn't understand the level of passion for the oval ball in Wales.

Without knowing too much about Celtic's youth set-up, I can confidently say they'll have loads of lads who've run, passed and tackled with a rugby ball since they could walk. Probably moreso than many traditional RL towns.

Welsh RU players I've met in the past (while at Uni in Cardiff) have generally been itching to give the big collisions of RL a go.

Well done Celtic.

Early days, but absolutely.

It bodes well for the planned progress of the game in Wales.

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

What's also very, very impressive is that Celtic Crusaders are currently 3rd in the National youth league having lost only one game.

They have two games in hand on the second place side West Cumbria, who are just two points in front of Celtic.

Leigh Miners are unbeaten and are top of the league.

Celtic play Leigh Miners next week in Wales.

That should be some game.

I'm looking to take that game in as I did yesterdays under 18 game.

A few have progressed a bit too quick and have weakened the U-18 team as they have been thrown into the reserve set up. Whatever happens from now on they've done great in what will have been the majority of the under 18 lads first season and sample of playing rugby league.

One of the tries yesterday was one of the best I've seen all season. IRB missed touch with a penalty and Crusaders ran it back in a flowing move that went about seventy metres finishing in the opposite corner.

I'm excited about what we can bring through if we keep the set up going and persist even when it seems the odds are stacked against you.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity

Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

Hopefully that's softened them up a bit for Sundays game against our nippers.

You coming down for it Starbug? I'll be there to have a look.
