posted this in another forum but would be interested in getting opinions from those in the uk!
hayne played for australia in november 2007 in wellington, then last year he was ridiculously allowed to switch nations, as many others ridiculously were allowed to as well for the world cup. the rlif, even though they keep changing their week 2 year rule, didnt allow tuaki and moi moi to switch back to tonga from nz because it was within the 2 year period since they had last played for tonga before switching to nz. to play for nsw, you have to be eligible for aus, hayne shouldnt be allowed to be eligible for aus until november 09. surely this rules him out for nsw until this time.
wonder what excuses the arl will invent when he is picked. they backed down from their original 2 year stand down period to a weaker rule, saying you cant switch twice within a 2 year period. i bet they give us the old "back to a clean slate after the world cup" excuse. rumour has it in the northern hemisphere that danny brough will have to wait 2 years before switching to england from scotland, why are there different rules down here?
How about no one waits any amount of years and Brough stays with Scotland forever. I dont see how people can even think about switching countries, they treat it like moving from one club to another.

thats the best solution. each country plays a certain amount of tests per year, and once you play a test for a country you play for them for your career.
wont happen with the current international body as they are obssessed in propping up countries to make them competitive at all costs rather than actually helping develop players and promote rugby league in these countries.

Funnily enough when it came about that Brough wanted to change his country the spokesperson from RFL had to backtrack when he said he would not be able to move and infact mention that a "clean slate" approach would be taken.
i can tell you where it's come from...it's come from tas baitieri..
the RFL have said the rules have changed and told everyone what the rule is and when & why the rules was changed..
but good old tas throws his usual spanner in the works and tells rugby league world (iirc) that the rule has'nt changed...without explaination as to why the RFL are wrong...
i tell you who i believe....and it ain't tas..you would#nt believe he's the RLIF development boss would you? see as he's does bugger all to develop the sport and actively seeks to aid players switching..christ he even tried to get 2 aussies, with french sounding names, onto the french RLWC squad...even though the squad had already been announced..
