JESUS WEPT HOW MANY TIMES????? £20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000. The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.
There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them.
turns out catalan are spending 200k more than the other sl teams...due to the exchange rate, loophole
how is that fair in a salary capped sport?
you do wonder when you look down their playing roster how they have fitted them all in under the cap, now we know
joke the rfl havent sorted this out
More anti-expansionist claptrap from fans of a 170 year old club who've won nowt for the last 56 years, play in a soccer stadium, rely on 1 benefactor and a forced merger for their very existance.........I really hope the French muller Wire at the weekend....RL boards across the north will go into meltdown slagging off the terrible crowd and totally ignoring the achievement. If this £200,000 was in fact an issue, there are 11 other SL chairmen well placed to sort it out, now that they own the game at the top.......it's no longer an issue for the RFL.
The RFL Operational rules are clear on this (page 268, section 3.1b if you're interested). Clubs that operate in a country where the Euro is currency can spend up to €2.394m "(or such amount as determined prior to the salary cap year in question by the board of Super League Europe Limited whose decision and brief reasons will be circulated to all Super League clubs)". In other words, their Euro-denominated salary cap limit is unchanged, it only appears to be growing because the spending power of Sterling has weakened and, if the club chairmen who make up the SLE board - these fine people here - have a problem with this, they can change it.
To start altering the Catalans salary cap each year makes it almost impossible for them to plan their squad long-term (particuarly when a nation knowingly votes to tank the value of its own currency, but that's probably a different discussion). Sometimes currency fluctuations will be in their favour, and sometimes they won't be.
And I also agree with the post above about how ridiculous it is to have a salary cap that doesn't reflect local cost of living and local tax environments.
I agree with others. This is a non-story.

There's nothing to sort out. The salary cap for all clubs operating in countries with the Euro is €2.394m, and this has not changed. All that has changed is that Sterling has got weaker, giving the allusion of some sort of 'advantage'. If Sterling has strengthened, Catalans would appear to be disadvantaged.
Put it this way, if you spend €100 on a meal in Europe today, it would cost you about £94. A few years ago, with a better exchange rate, it might have cost you £75. The restaurant is still being paid the same irrespective of the exchange rate.
And even if there was something to "sort out", it's a joke that so many idiots think that it's the RFL's problem to sort out. It's up to Ken Davy and the rest of the SLE board to "sort it out".
The exchange rate is so bad because of Brexit, now Catalans get a lot of stick from the flatcappers, along with all expansion clubs, but I don’t see how they can be blamed for Brexit.
Catalans will have players on 2 and 3 year contracts paid in euros, they need to know their salary cap in Euro’s for 2 and 3 years ahead.
Thats a complete common sense answer to the question, but it will not wash with the RFL are a joke brigade and the RFl conspiracy lot.
Leigh should be promoted to an expanded Superleague next year and this nonsense stopped before the RFL goes beyond ridicule as if this is what happens on their watch it’s time someone else took over[/quote] don't be f ing Ridiculous
Then allow the other eleven the same amount of cap... simples....
they are allowed to, as others have said the fluctuate in exchange rate cannot be chopped and changed every 6 months or so to suit the likes of Leigh. Players contracts run over 3-4 years. if the exchange rate stabilize after full brexit then the Rfl will tweek the salary cap for Catalans accordingly. Don't here Leigh fanns making too much noises about they are spending nearly full super league cap in championship giving them an advantage over half the other sides.

I'll take that as a gloat towards Leigh fans who don't manage the club. BTW - It is right that the salary cap is the same for all, despite the position Leigh are in. A post like this is expected really from a stuck up Leeds fan.
