McDermott gets a 5 year deal. Who's next? : Tue Nov 26, 2019 11:21 pm
So. After leaving London at the end of 2010, citing his desire to spend more time with his family in Yorkshire, he's now landed a 5 year deal to coach in Toronto. With 4 SL trophies, 2 Challenge Cups and a WCC all in an 8 season period, he has to be a true legend of the sport in the UK, but his geographical awareness stinks 8)

Anyway, I was having a trawl through the pages that another poster normally uses to inform us of why 'stralians are better at everything and found this list of out of contract players with the teams they were with last year.
Are any of them good enough to bolster Toronto's squad (or anyone else's for that matter)

Next year is all about making sure they stay up. End of next season is where its at as there are a LOT of great NRL players coming off contact that the Wolfpack can target

Well two Marquees may be in place at TWP by then, whether the first one SBW will have performed, we all wait to see with great interest, will he be an assett or will they be stuck with a player past his best?. I aren't sure if there is still a restriction on imports such that TWP can only take the same number of NRL players as the European clubs and have to count them as part of the cap - is it six? I'd guess the very best NRL stars may want to sign for the top English clubs.

It's all very fascinating, but the likely mediocre season for TWP this coming 2020 and salary cap restrictions may not see "great NRL players" flooding to Toronto/Manchester for 2021?

I may have missed something, but if Toronto are part of European super league are they not governed by the same rules as the rest of us? ie they are not allowed anymore non fed trained players than the rest, I do realise there are no Canadian players of the required standard yet but the bulk of their squad must be made up of UK/French based players (federation trained).

You've missed a few teams off mate.

PANTHERS

Unsigned: Hame Sele, Paea Pua, Tyrell Fuimaono, Nick Lui-Toso

DRAGONS

Unsigned: Jai Field, Lachlan Maranta, Patrick Kaufusi, Darren Nicholls, Lachlan Timm, Tristan Sailor

RABBITOHS

Unsigned: Kyle Turner, Billy Brittain, Jacob Gagan, Mawene Hiroti

ROOSTERS

WARRIORS

Unsigned: None.

WESTS TIGERS

Unsigned: None

Most are young guys who've played an handful of games and a few in their mid 20's who haven't made it yet, or cant quite nail it in first grade due to being inconsistent etc. You're team scouts would need to have a good eye for a player with most of those, if you're looking for someone who may not have made it in the NRL but who's skill set would work in the SL, Maybe someone like Danny Fualalo would do well in SL.

Of the more well known guys,I was gonna say Zane Tetevano but he seems to have just signed to the Panthers. Kyle Turner would be a good signing for a SL team. Te Maire Martin is one of the stand out names out of that lot and would probably do well over here. Obviously the Eels duo who'd be well up Toronto's street in Jennings and Hoffman.Jennings tbf would be a good SL signing a for maybe a couple of years, still got the pace and is a handful out wide.
Also see that Andrew McCullough is still without a club - he'd be a great signing for someone if they had the cap space etc- you gotta think he'll find an NRL club sooner or later.
