The only ESL news in Australia this year is about SBW or Folau.
If it wasn't for regular stories about them, the ESL would be invisable.

Is it positive news about either or is it they can't believe anyone is paying SBW £2.5m/yr and that someone has employed Folau.

How else do you suppose rugby league reach new audiences, fans and sponsors when you consider that the rfl aren't particularly flush with money and Toronto isn't costing the game a cent?

Hopefully the game's powerbrokers don't squander the opportunity presented and Argyle can keep funding against the odds.

Even the NFL have found other ways to dip their foot in the water and are reluctant to set up a team in foreign lands even with an almost guaranteed audience.

The ESL / RFL / SL just never seem to understand how to grow and expand. The way to do it is to have the best domestic product possible and get people interested at grass roots / school level. Just artificially moving a club (or creating) a club in a place where no one has heard of the game, importing all the players and then playing 63% of the games in another country in my mind isn't the way to do it.

Yes of course you grow from a base that is solid like the M62.

You don't grow plonking 20 players in the middle of Canada. You might grow if you professionalise a club in the south or France, at least we thought, but they have less French quality players than when they started and have lost their TV deal. The attempts to "expand" beyond the M62 are of course stifled by there being no market for it. The people there who like "football" type games are entrenched in Soccer and Rugby Union, just as America is entrenched in Grid-iron, soccer and rugby union.

How absurd to believe their is any room for growth for a fourth version of "football" in North America

But they believe it in the RL press, they believe it at the RFL meanwhile in the real world of Superleague the chairmen try to get on with keeping the game alive, by making the best of it here, so I respectfully suggest you delete "SL" from your post accusing them of not understanding growth and expansion. They didn't want Catalans or Toronto.

2022 they will own the professional game lock stock and barrel, and all attention will be on as you say "having the best product available"

Yes the purpose of expansion was to get significant numbers of French and North American players playing so that top class International RL which is what people DO take notice of around the globe could grow and stimulate further growth. There are less quality french players now than in 2006 when Catalans started and neither Catalans or Toronto run juniors to academy to reserves...they aren't even trying to develop players.

Superleague cannot pay $£$£Millions for these SO CALLED expansion attempts or the English game will suffer then nobody wins. This is rightly why TWP do not get TV money - they and Catalans are supposed to generate French and American TV money and neither of them do this.

But the tricks they play is stuff like signing old rugby stars for massive sums so they get articles in the papers they can claim will "grow the game" Sonny Bill didn't put anyone on the gate at Headingley, and Folau equally trooped out to an average Catalans crowd. We are supposed to be a down to earth good honest game but these clubs are spoiling it....

Plenty of sense in this International RL was always the way forward to get good visibility. The test series with Australia on terrestrial TV is the perfect example of a window of opportunity for this and should be what’s on offer for our best homegrown talent.

Instead of a trial game against Toronto in the USA, let’s pit say two Lancashire teams and two Yorkshire teams against them and there would be plenty of time to arrange and sell those games and the fans will turn out to see their team play Australia and a lot of neutrals like me would try to take in at least one of those games.

Put them on the telly too as in essence it would be like a Lions tour in reverse I’m sure SKY would take them even if the Beeb don’t.
