Are there any stipulations about what players can and can’t do away from training/matches? They seem to be all over that in cricket (Archer), Scottish Football (Celtic and Aberdeen) and the NRL (Bennett, Pangai Jnr etc) but I see players in superleague constantly posting about trips to restaurants, bars etc on social media. If they can go wherever, whenever they feel like it away from the game then it’s going to be difficult to stop this from continuing to happen.

So that means there’ll be two games off this weekend at the very least. Will the other teams who played on Sunday be tested as well?

Everyone is being tested on a regular basis anyway I believe so we’ll see what comes of that. I just can’t see how we avoid these incidents looking at how players are going about daily life. I look at the Archer case in cricket and he was dropped from a test match for simply popping home to his flat in Sussex to pick up some things when driving from Southampton to Manchester. He had no contact with anybody yet was put in to isolation for 5 days. I get they’ve set up an on-site bio secure environment and they can do that because of the money involved and because the series were being played over a short spell but still. I see players from my club living it up in Manchester City centre on a regular basis. If that’s allowed by the game and the clubs fair enough but the risks are huge. One positive test has a huge knock on effect.

I think this sadly will have bad consequences for the game, we are a contact sport which already brings bigger risks and the Government will just tell us to stop if we can't guarantee its safe.

Indeed, so far I’ve seen Blake Austin think it acceptable to mix with thousands outside of Anfield, Jackson Hastings put his weekly p*ss up all over instagram, Brad Dwyer similar and clearly some idiot at Hull FC has broken social distancing guidelines as well. Idiotic and selfish, I’m sure there are plenty of other examples as well. Until the RFL (and clubs themselves) take a tougher stance and issue fines to players at fault then there’ll be plenty more positive tests. I’d go as far as to say Hull should be fined for the postponements that will have to follow. How hard can it be for players to behave for three months and clubs to keep them under control?

There’s been no issues in the NRL where they are far stricter. It’s really not difficult to set out a clear list of things players can and can’t do between now and the end of the season and for players to take notice. It’s no wonder there’s been positive tests when players are daft enough to not only go to bars/pubs but then plaster them all over their social media. It’d be interesting to see if any clubs have set out any rules because it’s clear there are quite a few that haven’t.

Austin clearly broke the governments rules but yet still doesn’t seem to have been massively punished. Compare that to talk of Pangai Jnr being sacked for a trip to the barbers in a country with a far better record with this virus. It’s little wonder this has already hit us.

On the flip side with guys like Hastings, Hardaker and Hankinson from Wigan, I saw them post last night that they were out in Manchester but the pictures were of them sat outside. Even with the tougher measures in Greater Manchester, I believe you can sit outside bars in groups of six or less? The players will say they’re therefore doing nothing wrong but it’s still hugely risky and irresponsible IMO. The game is on the edge and it’s their own livelihoods they’re risking.

Agree that the players should be staying home, its their career and the sport is at risk so a few months sacrifice shouldent be a hardship for them.

However its judgemental to just assume players went to the pub and caught it. Super League announced on Friday that all tests were negative, it seems symtoms show 2-14 days after infection, so it could be the players had it but the test missed it or they only had it at low levels. They could have caught it on game day, on the coach, at the supermarket on their way home, or pretty much anywhere...we wont ever know.

Surely our game gets called off this weekend, from a competitioj point of view we are 6 players down, from a health point of view if I was a Cas player or ref I wouldent want to be anywhere near the FC squad!
